Older and starting over - Time to run that marathon!

Recommended Posts

I am starting over.  I was in really good shape a few years ago.  I managed to lose 50 lbs and run several half marathons and mud runs.  I am a 49 YO female who works in IT.  Recently life (menopause), adrenal fatigue and injury got me down pretty badly for a while.  I could not work out without becoming severely exhausted for days. I was forced to stop everything and just rest.  I gained weight super fast no matter what I did because of the combination of menopause and adrenal fatigue.  Finally, after several months of trial and error with supplements and modified workouts I have finally managed to get the adrenal fatigue (mostly) under control but have to be very careful.

.

Starting over stinks!!  But, I want ME back!  And, I want to run a full marathon this year.  I decided to clean up my diet and Paleo seems logical and relatively easy to do.  And, I like lots of meat and veggies.  Now to get off the carbs....it's like coming off crack and is not easy.  Ugh!!  I am at the point where my body is trying to switch to getting energy from a different source so I am hopeful that the weight will start to fall off soon.

I am glad to have found this site since I really need the information and support.  :)

Welcome to NerdFitness, Lori!

We have a lot of people who are in the same boat--Staci, a powerlifter and a major part of NF, has been recovering for quite some time after a severe leg injury.  The good news is that recovery is possible!  And, since you know how to get and stay in shape, you already know what steps to take to reach your goals.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!  We have lots of people on the forums who are going through the same issues or who have emerged triumphant from their struggles.  Most of us are very willing to share and provide support :)

We are excited to have you here, Lori.  Our next six week challenge starts on April 14--feel free to join us!

I got really comfortable heavy myself.  Only 33, but in IT as well.  Constantly reminding myself to stand vs. sit at my desk, but welcome back to the process, good luck

You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward."

Welcome, Lori!!

Yeap.  Menopause kicked my butt too - but you can do this.  Clean diet and exercise for the win!!
