Rule of thumb for strength training and caloric burn

Recommended Posts

So, I've been keeping track of my calories through My Fitness Pal. It's great for food intake and cardio but it's lacking any help on weight training. I was wondering, relying on the community and not google, if there is any rule of thumb for figuring out what I've burned whilst at the gym?

I know that there are a lot of variables involved; speed, weight, repetition, my body weight, room temperature, the average air velocity of a swallow... etc. But any ball parking would be helpful. I just like knowing that spending an hour and a half in a gym is ~400 calories or so.

You ever see those guys who look like they totally used to be in shape?
I'm working to get back to that...

Yeah, I read that study that Steve linked to, calories are burned up to 36 hours after a heavy weight workout. I don't mean to sound stubborn, I just like real numbers.

Maybe this is a pipe dream, looking for an easy answer to a difficult question. Just hoping for some mathematical equation, if that's possible.

Not sure then man. I love NOT worrying about the numbers! :)
