I'd love to see your travel/vacation pictures! Ohoho. Gorgeous stuff, here, guys.Alaskan scenery is bar none in the summer. (Of course, I'm biased.) I can't find anything good at work, but subbing this for future reference. I have some Alaskan scenery pictures! My husband grew up in Fairbanks and his family is still there. We visited in 2007. We went camping in Denali National Park. I could totally overload the thread with pics, but I'll try to just post a few. [OK, so it turns out I mostly have pictures of Denali and random moose. I thought I had more landscapes, but I don't. I'm not a great photographer, so anything good is just a happy accident. I've spoilered them...It kind of became a "KGB Vacation" post instead of a cool scenery post. Sorry] Mt. Denali reflected in Wonder Lake (natives call it Mt. Denali, so I've fallen into that habit...the rest of us call it Mt. McKinley) View from our campsite: 3 AM Sunshine. We were there 11 days and never saw full darkness until we were flying south on the last morning. On the 6 hour bus ride (with several stops for photo opportunities, etc.) from the front of Denali National Park to our campsite at Wonder Lake: This thing is bear-proof, right? Moose! (This and the next few pictures were taken much further north, near North Pole (not The North Pole, but the town) and Chena Hot Springs). Two baby moose (yearlings) wandered into the yard around 11 PM (Fairbanks). You gotta watch out for those moose... "Pardon me, but do you have any Grey Poupon?" (This guy was chasing us down the road) All the moose pictures (except the yearlings, who wandered into my inlaws' front yard) were taken from the side of the road (or inside the car) between Fairbanks and Chena Hot Springs. A salmon wheel (can't remember if it has a different name). Only natives are allowed to operate these. I found this amusing. 1 Quote My Puny Little Battlelog Link to comment
KGB Posted May 31, 2014 Author Report Share Posted May 31, 2014 And here are some more "local" mountains, only about 5 hours away. This was December 2011, and I was 8 weeks pregnant. Never take a mountain trip in the throws of morning sickness, let me tell you. Especially if you are accustomed to flat terrain and straight roads. It was trying to snow. The mountain stream outside our cabin, with a dusting of snow. Driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. It's curvy. And the shoulder is killer.We learned the hard way that if there's a wreck, they shut the whole thing down and you have to drive like 2 hours out of your way to get back to your cabin.
