Howdy all!

A little bit about myself...

I started my fitness adventure back at the beginning of high school as a runner. I had always been a pudgy fella and pretty nerdy (mostly reading, but a good bit into video games too), but running made me *moderately* cool. I ran track and cross country through high school, and continued on with longer distance running through college - 5ks and 10ks each season, with a few longer races (including one marathon, woot!).

After college, my running started to plateau. Working full time and doing some volunteer stuff here and there meant I had way less time to run than I did as an undergrad. And then a year or so after graduating, my SO (+best friend, +better half, +favorite sidekick) of 4.5y and I moved in together. That's when my running really took a backseat. I realized that 10 or so hours a week was too much to commit to running, and that it was more of a hobby and passtime than a means of becoming a better man. It was around this time that I realized that getting stronger was far more important to me than getting faster or becoming a better runner.

Herein lies why I find myself here. About six months ago I began weightlifting. I started not just because I wanted to put on more muscle, but because I wanted to be a stronger man, a stronger person. Even with running, I had always been a pretty passive, takes-life-as-it-comes kinda guy, and I wanted that to change. So far so good - I feel like weightlifting has helped me become more assertive here and there, while I've also been able to put on a bit of muscle. That being said though, I'm really struggling with sticking to it, with plateauing, and with knowing what I'm supposed to be doing. With running, I had a community of a few friends I could turn to with questions or trouble spots, but with weightlifting I feel like I'm really flying solo. I'm here because (after lurking on the blog for about a year, and the forum for a few months) I think this a really great community and support system, and I'm looking for allies!

So that's how I find myself here. Looking forward to getting to know you guys, becoming a part of the awesome community here, and of course getting stronger!!

Welcome to the Rebellion!!!!

There's a lot to take in - but take it slowly and you'll pick it up as you go.  It sounds like you've already been hanging out on the forums - so you know what is available there.

If you want more accountability, I do recommend the 6-week challenges.  During these challenges, you pick a few goals to work on that will help you improve your life.  6 weeks is usually enough time to let you decide if the new activities are helpful and work for you .... or not. And that's long enough to establish new habits that you can turn into a healthier lifestyle.

The current challenge started June 9th, but you can still get in on the fun.  You'd start as a Level 1 Rebel (http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/forum/362-level-1-rebels/) .... which is where you LEARN about all of the stats, guilds, rpg character, and so on as well as working at setting SMART goals.  You still get to adopt what works for you, and you can ignore the rest.  Some very successful NF people never bother with classes or stat points or race or so on.  They just hang out in the guild that suits their goals best.

Even MOAR accountability?  We have accountability groups of 7 or so people who check up on each other frequently during a challenge.  Plus lots of other, optional fun.

Let us know how we can help you achieve your goals.  Post here ... or you can message me with the envelope icon at the upper right of the screen.

Good luck!!
