Terrible runner and terrible dieter seeks fitness community

Recommended Posts

Hello! I'm Larkin. I'm 18, 5'1", and 112.6lbs, BF 26%. I run every day that isn't too hot, eat moderately (generally porridge or an egg for breakfast, soup or a sandwich for lunch, and a salad for dinner), and do sit-ups and the occasional round of body weight squats, but the skinnyfat doesn't seem to be going. I can't do a specialised type of diet as my family, whom I live with, don't like "fad diets", but I'm up for anything else. I'm currently saving up to start a gym membership.

On the nerd side, my big interests are psychopharmacology, philosophy, music, and anime. I used to play a lot of video games, but I'm cutting down on that as I used to play them numbly and constantly when I was quite depressed and don't want to be reminded of those days. I'm learning Japanese and German spasmodically.

So... hello! :)

Welcome Larkin! Just from reading this post, it looks like you really need to add strength training. Your lean body mass is only 83 lbs. Since you are joining a gym soon, I hope you find one with Olympic barbells for you to use. Have you read about Staci's transformation? I highly recommend lifting weights, eating a slight caloric surplus to help grow your muscles, and get enough protein (~90g for you). This will really help you with your skinny fat situation :)

Also, a new 6 week challenge starts next week!

Good Luck!

Thank you! I have been thinking for a long time about starting strength training, but my family have been pretty disparaging. "Do you want to get bulky?", and the like. Well, stuff them. Hmph!

Staci's article was amazing. Does she still post here? I'd like to speak to her some time. She's an inspiration.

As for next week's challenge, you'll see me there. :)
