Having stumbled across the blog while looking at strength training I'm loving it.

I'm 193cm and 105kg (or 6'4 and 230lb if you prefer) and from rough measurements something like 23% body fat. I've had a year off from training when moving to a new place and starting a PhD but decided I need to get moving again so have begun Rippetoe's Starting Strength programme.

I've a rowing background, and used to do a lot of training for that. It mainly consisted of boat work and stuff on rowing machines, mainly a mix of long cardio and intervals but never really felt I was strong enough, hence the weight training.

Aims are to gain strength and lose body fat (aiming to get down to 15% in 6months to start with) but I don't really care about absolute weight so much and feeling better.
