Aren't Dragons Meant To Be Fierce?

Recommended Posts

Hello there! Yes, you, the one staring at the poor, weak, out of shape dragon. I know what you're thinking. "Aren't dragons meant to be fierce?" Well, yes, they are. But sometimes it doesn't happen that way!

I'm Ria, nice to meet you. I'm 22 (23 later this month), female, overweight and unhappy with myself generally. I'm finally working towards a career that is all my own idea, in food oddly enough. The main thing, though is that I really want to make a difference to myself and my life.

As far as past diet and exercise go, I used to be super skinny. In high school people wondered if I was anorexic, but I ate just fine. After I finished school and moved out of home, I started eating worse, and got fat instead, not that people think I'm fat when they look at me. I'm 167cm (around 5'7") and weigh 83kg (which is about 183 pounds, or 13 stone). Most of it seems to be on my hips and thighs rather than on my stomach, so whenever I tell people I want to lost weight they go "but you don't need to, you look fine!" and they never believe I weigh as much as I do.

Also, to top it off, I went and fell over on Monday and damaged a ligament in my hip, and the bone keeps moving around weirdly as though there is a lose muscle that won't hold it in place. I've been stuck at home all week trying to work out how to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get in shape and be healthy, and find things to do that make me happy. Thankfully, I've already found someone who makes me happy, and we're getting married May next year, so it's just everything else I need to sort out.

Wow. That sounded far more grumpy than I had intended when I started the post.

Look around and the classes and see if any of the strikes you as something you would enjoy doing, all of them are fun and will get you a fitness boost for sure!

Thanks!

Not going to jump into the exercise wagon just yet. Want to make sure I can use my leg properly and it isn't going to give out underneath me before I try anything. I've got crutches at the moment, and I still can't rest my weight on it for long. Hopefully it will ease up a bit more by the end of the weekend.

I'm actually planning on signing up to a gym. I want to try out the strength training, as well as do some running once I can again. Mostly I'm looking forward to even being able to go for a walk. The driveway where I live is quite steep, so I can't really go down it with the crutches.
