Kaji
In one of these emails I was linked to an article about making your own alter ego. Picking a superpower and donning a particular outfit for when you train. I thought it was a really cool idea, and I've been thinking it over for a while now, but I wanted to know if there's anyone else here who has actually gone through with this? I see plenty of people on the forum have their stats in their sigs, so I'm sure I'm not the only one here who enjoys the whole character building process, so I wanna hear some stories! One of my long term goals here is to build up my abysmal self confidence, so I really want to put effort into this alter ego thing. I'll share my progress with you guys, and I hope to hear about your journeys as well! Start: Theme wise, I think rather than go the traditional comic book route I'm going to draw inspiration from some of my favourite Anime, Manga, and fighting games. The shounen genre (Things like Dragonball Z, One Piece, and Hunter X Hunter) have always been great sources of motivation to get out there and train. Periods of time devoted to serious training to fight the main villain is a staple of the genre, alongside superhuman feats of strength and skill. Fighting games (Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, and Killer Instinct being among my favourites) are a great source of some of the most visually cool fighting styles and "Super moves" I've seen, as well as character designs that are very thematic. Putting these together I'm sure I can come up with something great. If anyone can guess where my avatar comes from, not only will you have identified one of my big inspirations, you'll also earn my respect. 1 Quote Link to comment
jody
Yup. My workout uniform consists of huge stretch pants and a baggy t-shirt. LoL I'm gonna make myself a better one when I slim down a wee bit. :-)NF is a great place to go to find your inner super saiyan! 1 Quote A year from now, you may wish you had started today. Kaylya
There's an intro series of emails and then you get one with new blog posts, which I believe is usually twice per week. Kaji
Thanks for the info! I'll edit my off topic question out of the first post. Moving on. As I slowly begin to invest in more workout gear, I'm starting to get a sense of what my finished kit of stuff is going to look like. I'm looking in to getting some MMA gloves, and a proper pair of gym shoes. I already have plenty of sweats, and now what I need is a few good workout t-shirts. So far, I've learned how to use hand wraps, and it's pretty cool. Just having them on makes me feel more like a legitimate fighter, and if I tried to count all the martial arts movie and anime characters with bandaged hands I'd be here all night. One step closer! Kaji
I just realized I put this thread in the wrong place. So sorry! But big thanks to bigm_work in the chat room for moving it for me. Let the super persona building continue! Quote Link to comment
Steppinon D'Arrows
Hope your Alter Ego building is going well. I haven't really put much effort into mine yet, not really, but I like drawing from Anime and Manga too. I'm not very imaginative, though. If you like shounen, have you seen Lupin the 3rd? I've made the personal goal of working my way through the entire collection but it seems to get further and further away.I've seen Green Jacket, some of Red Jacket, a number of the yearly specials/movies, the first live-action film ("Psychokinetic Strategy", not that new one), some fan made stuff from YouTube, that unusual one about the Italian guy who wanted to be Lupin when he grew up and kept imagining himself and everyone else as the characters while participating in a heist of some sort, the Lupin the 8th pilot episode that was really very Holmesian and that recent spin-off series with Fujiko Mine as the main character. Now there's the new live-action one, the new movie about Daisuke Jigen and they're making Blue Jacket soon! I haven't even seen all of Pink Jacket yet! I hope a subtitled version of that musical with the all-female cast comes out online. I tried to see that Phoenix Wright one they did but I couldn't find it all online. Maybe I should try looking again. At least I got to see Miles Edgeworth's number with all the dancing Edgeworths.
