Fogo
I just got home from a trip down to Las Vegas to run the Ragnar Relay. That thing was a blast! Incredibly tiring, but still a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I only managed to complete 1/3 of my part of the relay. I had three legs of the relay assigned to me: 6.5 miles, 2.7, and a final 6.5. I was feeling great when I started out, but about 2 miles into my first leg, I felt a weird pop in my left knee, which then turned into me just about falling on my face. There wasn't much support available on some of these runs, and so I tried to just power though the pain. Which I did. I managed to finish the leg, but by the end the tears were flowing, and the pain nearly made me hurl. So… I probably shouldn't have finished that, but I did. As a result, I was unable to complete my portions of the relay, and the rest of the team pulled together to help cover those legs. I've got an awesome team, and I was still able to help out be serving as the designated team driver for the rest of the race. Not how I wanted to finish, but it's still helping, right? On the bright side, I still did finish one leg of the race, and it was rated a "very hard" by the organizers, so I've got that going for me. And, as long as I don't try moving too fast, I can still walk. I've got an appointment with a knee specialist next week (earliest he can see me) who does good work, and tries to avoid surgery whenever possible. He's the same doc that rebuilt my sister's knee when she blew it out dancing a few years back, and he did some great work for her. So, while Ragnar did chew me up and spit me out, it only means that once I can get running again, I'll be back with a vengeance. Quote Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
