CyberSpice
Hi all, In the late 90s I had some surgery. Over the next ten years I put on about 120lbs. About 5 years ago I had to travel regularly for work so started using the hotel gyms. Typically treadmill and elliptical. I also took up belly dancing. Combined with calorie counting I lost about 55lbs. However I then went and broke my wrist. I also get depression (especially SAD - I live in the UK and we have short days in the winter) which inevitably results in weight gain. I ended up putting it all back on again. This is what I looked like... About 4 years ago I had ago at Roller Derby. I've always liked skating so thought it was fun. However, after two sessions, I realised I was too heavy and too unfit to keep up and it was just too upsetting for me so I stopped. Last year I decided to have another go. I pre-prepared by tracking down free skate sessions so I could get some practice in before starting. It turned out the league I'd tried previously now ran suitable sessions and after a month I was invited to join the recreational league. So, aged 47. I became a roller girl. When I started I was 300lbs needed to pull myself up by my hands and couldn't skate more than three laps before needing a rest. Over the year I've gotten fitter and lost about 20lbs. I can skate faster and a lot lot longer. I survive 6 hour boot camps. This is what I looked like a couple of months ago... However I still need more stamina, more endurance, less weight and more strength. I'm tall (6'1") and relatively agile but to get better at derby I need to get better at life. I have lost more size than weight because I've put on a lot of muscle. But I want to lose about 100lbs and continue to get stronger. Its time to level up. I'm hoping by joining here I can work on my weight, my fitness and my strength. 1 Quote Link to comment
LadyGrey
Hello CyberSpice! Nice to meet you and congrats at becoming a roller girl! I used to play Roller Derby too and I LOVED IT! Getting knocked around was more fun than I ever thought imaginable! lol Sadly, the drama within the league(s) is what killed it for me. I stuck with it for a little over a year, but unfortunately I only got to play in one bout Since then I have gained 10 lbs. Not much considering the grand scheme of how I gain weight, but it still sucks. I miss Roller Derby terribly and it's been months since I put on my skates. I even had to pack them away not long ago. Plus, I have knee troubles and it is keeping me from doing a lot of what I love. But I had some rocking thigh muscles, lol! I'll share one of my derby pics too One of my prouder moments. And welcome to Nerd Fitness! 1 Quote Rising Heroes Faction: HAVIK Fitbit | Art Page | Instagram Link to comment
