What music fires you up at the gym?

Recommended Posts

I have been in need of some new music to add to my arsenal for training. What do you listen to during your sessions working out?

Here'a a small list of mine- primarily rock, metal, and some older stuff  :)

Survivor- Eye of the Tiger (yup! Can't hate on that)

Kamelot- Solitaire-  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UZs9aJfdNQ
Within Temptation- And We Run [i prefer the Live version more than the album]
Ill Nino- Live Like There's No Tomorrow
Five Finger Death Punch- Lift Me Up
Vince DiCola- Rocky 4 original motion picture soundtrack's Training Montage
Lindsey Stirling- Shatter Me

**A soundtrack from The Dark Knight Rises album, sped up 10% faster- Imagine The Fire - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6j5I0J_meGQ  [This song seriously gets my blood moving no matter what I am doing! Amazing for sprinting.]

What I listen to currently is:

Eminem - Til I collapse  (excellent for squats or benchpress)

Blue Stahli - The Pure and the Tainted

Jesse J - Hero

Papa Roach - Do or Die

Sparzanza - Death is certain Life is not (it's usually in the background when I play ESO, so when I listen to it at the gym, I too want to level up)

Dream Evil - The Choosen Ones

Sabaton - Resist and Bite

Amon Amarth - Twilight of the Thunder God

Most of the songs by Two Steps From Hell and Turmion Kätilöt

Union Underground - Across the Nation

I think that is it.

My library is FULL of Within Temptation. What Have You Done? was the song that got me addicted like a disease to them. Them and Kamelot are my absolute 2 favorite bands,

To add to the list: Fireflight- Stronger Than You Think
Powerman 5000- When World's Collide.
Sabaton- Resist and Bite. (These guys seriously remind me a Gerard Butler in 300 singing to heavy metal. PLEASE tell me I am wrong because I CANNOT get rid of that mindset! It makes the band just epic no matter what lol)

Fireflight-Stronger Than You Think

I'm a sucker for anything arena rock-y/epic. The most recent stuff by Fallout Boy (My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark, Centuries), Kick Start My Heart by Motley Crue, Queen's more uptempo stuff.

Basically, I want the BPM high. Thats it really. Anything from Katy Perry to Children of Bodom. I like to pretend I'm competing for some major thing, live on television and the whole bit. It gets me through.

Oh I completely forgot about Motley Crue!!! Yeah you're right, Kick Start My Heart certainly is an adrenaline song. I have been looking for more of those rapid fire songs like those myself.

Good songs!  Sabaton does kinda sound like a 300-esque band.

Fun fact: Fireflight is a Christian band.  They're also some fantastic gym music.  I like "Unbreakable" myself.

I did not know they were, though I was starting to think that they were certainly a softer rock band. There are many Christian bands that I've run into lately that sound so amazing. The clean lyrics hook me in. Not a fan of super foul lyrics.

oddly the music I like is completely the other way to the fired up power anthems. Like Oramac whilst I lift I don't listen to anything, for me I like it quiet but I do like to listen to things before I lift

and I like to listen to something a lot slower, I find fast songs don't get me in the right head space to do big, slow lifts

so something more like hozier - take me to church. I appreciate he doesn't mean the iron church when he's singing it but that's what I picture in my head

The Black Flag station on Pandora gets heavily used by me at the gym.

Sometimes though, I listen to total crap contemporary pop during long cardio sessions.

Did I offer advice in my post?  Please keep the following in mind:

  • I am not a doctor nor any other kind of medical professional.
  • I am not a lawyer.
  • I am not a mental health provider
  • I am not a nutritionist
  • Your mileage may vary
  • I don't do anything in moderation
  • I have lots of injuries & if you train like me, you probably will too.

My favorite cardio album is Energy by Operation Ivy. Sometimes I will also run to Flogging Molly or Rancid. Weight training... Pretty much the same especially since I am still doing body weight circuits only. I transition to begin powerlifting next week with a buddy of mine back at school, so I will probably expand my playlist then.
