At the risk of double dipping …

Recommended Posts

Hey-o,

I’m not new to the NF boards, but returning after a few years’ absence. I joined in early 2013 and got fit, but then some personal stuff derailed me. I haven’t quit exercising entirely, but tapered down and lost some of the good eating habits I learned here.

I want to re-new myself, drop 10 pounds and accept a challenge from a colleague to run a 5K with him December 13 (eight weeks). I’m committed to it all but I could use some guidance and support as I move back into a “rebellious†regimen.

Any advice ... and can anyone get my back?

Used the beginners body weight workout this morning and it kicked my butt. I can't believe how out of shape I am. I made it through three reps though and am committed to it every other day until the next six-week challenge. On off days I'll run and gradually stretch my distances to get ready for my upcoming 5K.

Also beginning to purge the pantry and refrigerator from those foods that are not my friends.

Am I better by easing back into this like described or going all-in right away?

Thanks Sundae! I'm going against my inclination which is to jump in with both feet expecting quick results. I suspected it may be more difficult to keep the commitment by doing that but didn't really consider the (potential) injury aspect.

I've also been scoping out these couch-to-5K apps. I'm not exactly starting at "couch" level, but are these programs the best training/preparation regimens?

When I started the 5x5 program, I knew I could squat more than the bar, but that's where I started at, mainly to focus on form. Nothing wrong with being a bit cautious when it comes to working out, especially with something new, or something you've been out of for a while.

Thanks for the post. It makes sense. Life is a gradual progression. We can make our workout routines such as well.
