Hi everyone, this is my first post so thought I ought to introduce myself properly!

My name is Steve and I'm from the West Yorkshire in the UK.  I'm 45 years old and have been struggling with my weight for years...

I KNOW what healthy is (or at least I thought I did) and I KNOW I ought to exercise a lot more, but you know how it is - job, wife, 2 kids etc etc...  I have a treadmill which gets used more than you'd think, maybe 2 -3 times a week, for maybe 30 minutes a time, but it's always been a bit of a run/walk/watch tv type affair.

Over the years, I've tried Weightwatchers, Slimming World and Atkins - all of which have helped me lose a few pounds, but then comes the weekend.  You HAVE to let your hair down on a weekend, right? Hmmm.... a few beers, burger &  fries on a Friday, Pizza on Saturday, then before you know it Monday mornings weigh in shows you've piled all the weight back on.

I'm also a bit of a snacker - the kids love their biscuit (cookie, for my American friends) tin, and now that I work from home, so do I!!!

But enough is enough.  I need to lose a lot of weight, I WANT to lose a lot of weight, and I want to get fit.  I got weighed this morning - I'm exactly 250lbs.  It's always nice to start on a nice round figure isn't it - and God knows I am a round figure!!  I'm 6ft 2 and "well built", which has been part of the problem for me - everyone says I "carry the weight well". Well meaning I guess, but it doesn't help.

So this weekend I have read & read & read - this website, ebooks, blogs, youtube vids - I know what I need to do, and strangely I think I've always known. I lost the most weight when I did Atkins, and now I understand why.  I am going to try stick to a Paleo type lifestyle as much as possible, with a good walk each day, and some sprint/strength training too.

Sorry for the LONG story, but I needed to get that off my chest! I'd like to use this site to keep track of my progress if there's somewhere appropriate to do that.

So, nice to meet you all :)

Hi there!  I totally understand letting your hair down on the weekend.

As far as keeping track of your progress, I'm a return participant here, but I remember it being an awesome place for that (so here I am ... again). :)

Thanks Sashi,

I'm on day 2 and feeling, well, better I suppose? Not been eating lots anyway, but I really need to find some decent ideas for meals - there's only so much egg and fish I can eat!

Hi there!

Knowing is half the battle, so welcome!

My only suggestion- baby steps!!!

I'm back after a few month hiatus.  I kept over committing and dropping off the internet after feeling frustrated.  This time I'm back with tiny, realistic goals after failing twice since August! Took me long enough to figure it out, huh? Hang in there!!

I'm a 33 y.o. mother of 3, wife to 1. I float between veganism and omnivorism, but will focus on Paleo during this mini challenge.  I am a drama/dance/English teacher.  Class: Aspiring Assassin.

Main quest: Lose 10% body fat [0/10%]

Sub-quest 1: Cook one new recipe per week [0/2]

Sub-quest 2: Walk 6,000+ steps per day [0/2]

Sub-quest 3: Read 1 book for pleasure  [0/1]

My mini-quests for this challenge:

1.)  I will do the body weight challenge X1, 3 days per week.  Anything less? FAIL!

2.)  I will focus on a Paleo lifestyle, allowing dairy intermittently, but no to sugar and carbs except on weekends!  And I will only drink water on a daily basis (over 64 fl oz).

3.)  I will respond in writing and with positivity per week to 5 or more other newbie NF rebels working on challenges (stolen from a friend!)

Mini challenge: +1WIS
