Shen
I realized I've been posting on this forum for a few days now, but I only just discovered the introduction thread. So, allow me to introduce myself. I live in Vermont, and it is very beautiful here. I currently work at a mental health hospital, and am applying to graduate programs in conservation biology. I went to one of the coolest colleges there is, St. John's (http://www.sjc.edu) and learned how to read a book. Before St. John's, I did professional star wars lightsaber stage combat (really!) and studied monkey kung fu, épée fencing, staged combat, escrima, and various other martial arts. I have always wanted to feel powerful and get all skillful and muscly, but I am thin and have trouble building muscle. I want to do it! I am excited to set goals for (and progress toward) pull-ups, inversions, greater flexibility, and more. Basically, I'm built like Boomer but I want to be Starbuck. My interests include classical music, food, ornithology, falconry, philosophy, natural science, cool dance/movement projects, scifi and action movies, eastern classics, and TCM. I dressed up as Furiosa this Halloween, and not only was it my first cosplay, I think it turned out pretty well! I really hope to find motivation here, and to make some new friends. I just moved to VT and don't have a lot of friends yet. Oh yeah - I have a kitten named Kaylee. 1 Quote My Challenge is Here. Link to comment
fitnessgurl
Hi (officially), lol! Star Wars lightsaber training? Here in P.A., we have the Central P.A. Jedi Knights group. I'm into some of the same things you are. I belong to the local Starfleet chapter which is loads of fun. Do you like Star Trek?Kaylee? As in Firefly? Shen
Yep, firefly Kaylee! I needed a name that was scrappy and adorable. I do like Star Trek! I was in the process of planning a Star Trek LARP at one point but never finished writing/got it together. Please tell me more about what a local Starfleet chapter does! 1 Quote My Challenge is Here. Please tell me more about what a local Starfleet chapter does! Our chapter attends cons, does charity events (currently we've adopted a wolf-hybrid and raise funds for the wolf-hybrid sanctuary & we also donate clothing to the rescue mission), we also do themed events at people's houses (our last one was a pirate cookout), have go-to-the-movies nights, etc. It's a lot of fun. You can also become a member of Starfleet Academy and take online classes. Oh, and we also have a Marine strike group called the Storm Eagles and they do military-themed activities. Their last event was a trip to the Army Heritage Museum. Shen
That sounds really fun and enriching! I haven't done the jedi thing for many years now. I kind of outgrew my group, and wanted to move on to studying martial arts and non-theatrical training. I very much look forward to the next challenge. 1 Quote My Challenge is Here. Link to comment

Shen
So where do I go to get started and when? Quote My Challenge is Here. Link to comment
fitnessgurl
So where do I go to get started and when?Well, start with some simple goals. You can write them on paper and transfer them to the Recruits section when the new challenge starts. Since you're new; that will be your group. After your first challenge, then you join a guild.I know the rules are changing a bit but you could browse through the Recruits section from the last challenge to see what it's like. The next challenge starts January 4th. You'll also want to create a Battle Log which is where you keep track of your goals during the challenge.Feel free to click on my links as well. The one is an intro/weekly summary and the other is my battle log.I hope this helps! 1 Quote L3 Human Ranger/Assassin Str. 6 Dex. 2 Sta. 1 Con. 12 Wis. 8 Cha. 3 https://www.nerdfitness.com/character/58014 Motto: Where there is life, there is hope.
