New recruit, help me break me down.

Recommended Posts

I've been lurking here for a few weeks now. I love the articles and environment on the boards. Guess I should introduce myself now.

I am a 27 yr-old computer programmer. I am also married with two children, 7 and 1. I have been overweight most of my life. I was a very active child and still overweight. I stopped playing sports in high school and slowly put on more weight after that. When I graduated I was around 250. Two years later my wife had our first child and I gained 25 lbs along with her during the pregnancy. We didn't have a lot of money so we ate pretty poorly nutrition wise, crappy food is cheap. :( My hobby then didn't help me in the fitness department either. Playing MMOs don't help the waistline. I still enjoy playing video games but I have decreased the frequency tremendously. I also enjoy reading, hunting, fishing, cooking and gardening (fresh organic veggies ftw!).

In 2007 or 2008 I weighed in at my heaviest that I am aware of, 320. 2009 is when I started half-heartedly trying to loose weight. Most of my loss so far has been from diet changes and not exercise. I have finally decided to put in more effort in the exercise department. I would like to increase my upper-body strength and add muscle definition (current strength is pathetic). I also started doing the couch to 5k. I would like to run a 5k before the end of the year.

So far this year I have lost close to 30 lbs. I am currently in the 270s and I am 6'1''. I hope to keep the trend going.

6'1'' ~271 lbs. (-14 8-5-12, -49 from max)

back to 290 :( 6/5/14

Welcome to the boards dude, sounds like you got a lot of things going right so far. Congrats on your success this year, keep building on your momentum.

If you want to start getting strong, work on dropping that weight and start incorporating some strength building stuff like push ups to start building your upper body.

Let us know how we can help!
