ETFnerd
So I was again thinking about this: EMS UnitOf course this is the lazy person's holy grail, so maybe i thought i'd collect the nerds' viewpoint on using EMS to grow muscle...FDA says: "Do they really work? While an EMS device may be able to temporarily strengthen, tone or firm a muscle, no EMS devices have been cleared at this time for weight loss, girth reduction, or for obtaining "rock hard" abs." Also points out some dangers.Medical studies seem positive British StudyLiveStrong article doesn't say it's a crockBruce Lee used to be a fan... I don't think I'm lazy, but if there is upside with no downside, should I try it? Is there an unwarranted negative bias against this device? ETFnerd
even if it prevents/slows catabolism it would be helpful, no? worked hard to get it and cry when it goes away... tear falls off my cheek...FDA also seems to suggest... strengthen...?all strengthening is temporary, until you stop... i think... oystergirl
I have a small EM unit to release tension in my neck and traps from a chronic condition. I purchased it from my physical therapist after I had used up my PT allotment one year. For me, it is extremely uncomfortable to turn it up to the level where your muscle contracts and jumps...I have no clue if it works for building muscle, I just know I dont use it anymore. Loren Wade
I see it's uses for therapy (used it today at the Chiropractor actually), but there's no replacement for just doing situps or leg raises. Quote lobro's a druid? twitter | fb Link to comment

Oogiem
I don't think I'm lazy, but if there is upside with no downside, should I try it? Is there an unwarranted negative bias against this device?I have a single data point. Based on the near miraculous remission of all pain in my hip after a single treatment, I'd say as a method in conjunction with physical therapy to treat injury it's a big win. As far as using it in place of work, I don't think so. Oh and if the muscle is twitching to much it doesn't work as well as a therapy according to my PT. Rosie
My mum used to have one that she used for a pain in her shoulder. i used to stick the pads on my had, crank it up high and watch my hand contort because I'm mature like that. never used it for any sort of rehab myself though. aj_rock
I did EMS when I had lower back problems. I'm pretty much convinced it actually slowed my recovery...It was also VERY unpleasant. Me and electricity don't get along well. Quote Why must I put a name on the foods I choose to eat and how I choose to eat them?
