Closer to Color Sash Testing!

Recommended Posts

I got my black belt in a martial art called Tae Soo Do about three years ago. Once you graduate TSD, you move into the advanced program, Hwa Rang Do, which features sashes instead of belts. (And a cooler uniform. Talk about leveling up!)

Black Belt in TSD = Yellow Sash in HRD

In order to test for green sash, the next rank, you not only need to learn Yellow Sash material, but White and Orange as well. There's a LOT of stuff to get through. There are more techniques (one step blocking, lock-outs, etc.) in White Sash than there are in ALL of TSD. It takes most people 6 months to a year of training diligently to get to the next rank, and there's a lot of drop out.

I've spent the last 3 years training half-heartedly on and off, due to living abroad in Japan for a year, money and time issues, and some personal struggles I was going through. In December, I finally convinced my boss to let me off early twice a month so I could drive an hour and a half to train. Since discovering this website, I've made it my goal to test and achieve Green Sash by the end of the year.

On Wednesday night at my last class, I learned my last 5 techniques to complete Orange Sash. I know have all of the material for White and Orange. Only Yellow sash material to go, and I can test!!

On an extra woot note, last week-my first full week of weight lifting-I was able to do 3 sets of bench press with just the bar, at 10 reps, 8 reps and 7 reps. Last night, with much determination, I did 3 sets of 10 reps, 9 reps, and 8 reps. Slowly but surely raising it up!!
