Body Fat % measuring: scales or calipers?

Recommended Posts

A scale, a tape measure, and the mirror/progress pictures are the ideal method for most people. A scale for day-to-day stuff (don't worry about fluctuations though!), and the rest for long term results.

Why must I put a name on the foods I choose to eat and how I choose to eat them? Rather than tell people that I eat according to someone else's arbitrary rules, I'd rather just tell them, I eat healthy. And no, my diet does not have a name.My daily battle log!

Tape measure is probably the most accurate method...barring, of course, expensive options like hydrostatic weighing. Next best option besides tape measures seems to be skin calipers.

For brands, Accu-Measure seems to be a somewhat popular brand of calipers. There seems to be a wide range of different models and prices, though, so you'd have to look around.

I know you didn't ask about tape measures, but MyoTape seems to be a good go-to for those, as well. (Upon looking around, I realized MyoTape is made by Accu-Measure, so, yeah, I guess that means Accu-Measure all around.)

Sorry, but I don't know much about what types of scales (if any) are reliable for estimating body fat.

The only problem with tape is math.. ugh. :topsy_turvy:

EDIT: They have online calculators for all the methods! Woot.
