IQ84 Conquered!

Recommended Posts

Damn, I bought this one as an ebook and had no idea what I was getting into in terms of length - but after 30 hours and 3804 page turns, I'm finally done. Definitely my favourite of all the Murakami that I've read, and worth a read if you've got the patience. I personally find Murakami's work tough to read, mainly because I seem to really identify with his protagonists in a weird way (they're a little bit sad and resigned, always).

In any case, I had Infinite Jest at the top of my pile, but I don't think I can take on another epic immediately. Suggestions for something shorter and lighter, but not trashy? No Hunger Games recommendations, please.

Sweet you and Crooked seem to have finished it at the same time.

My recommendation - Dreseden Files by Jim Butcher (Book 1: Storm Front) Easy read that is like a detox after a heavy book. About a modern day wize cracking wizard. What's not to enjoy?

I started reading it a while ago but found it plodding (even though I'd read a review that said stick with it). I put it down in favor of a strength training book. I shall pick it back up today at lunch. Am going to stick it out. Big books don't bother me at all but this one seemed slow. Am about 200 pages in.

I AM going the distance

'Cause all I wanna do is go the distance. Nobody's ever gone the distance with Creed, and if I can go that distance, you see, and that bell rings and I'm still standin', I'm gonna know for the first time in my life, see, that I weren't just another bum from the neighborhood.

I've never read him - what's the deal?

He's most well known for Ender's Game. Some of his books can get preachy and, to me, weird spiritually. I still read whatever I can get my hands on by him though because when he's good, he's good.

As for him as a person, he's an outspoken critic of gay marriage and homosexuality in general. And has the reputation of just not being a very pleasant person.
