New Recruit reporting for duty

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

My name is Kelsey, and I've been reading NerdFitness.com for about half a year now. I always thought about joining the forum, but felt too shy to. Well, here I am. :) I love exercising and athletics, but I struggle with diet. (Whether it's eating sweets people put in my path, or just being too lazy to cook my own food.)

I participated in a fair amount of sports when I was little: baseball, soccer, football (yes, I'm a girl). I also did gymnastics from before I can remember until I was 15. After I quit gymnastics, I coached it for a while and then went away to college. During college I focused on overall fitness, rather than a specific sport. I went through the elliptical phase my first year. Found strength training my second year. Found running my third year. And... stopped exercising my last year in college.

Now I'm out on my own with my first job (Pre-K Teacher) and a new obsession: boxing. I've been boxing since the beginning of this year, and I've loved every second of it. Now I'm training for my first amateur boxing bout, which will happen on June 7th. I'm so excited about it. I box 5 days/week for 1-2 hours/day, which makes it hard to fit much else in after work.

My battle plans? Keep improving my boxing. Learn how to feed myself healthy food. (I'm currently 1 lb over my bout weight range, so I want to lose at least a couple of pounds to be safely within my contracted range.) The fight is a part of a charity fight night, so I'm also trying to raise $5,000 for a local charity (the Atlanta Children's Shelter). THAT is a big goal for me, so my battle plan is to put myself and my cause out there among everyone that I know.

I'm bringing enthusiasm to the table, and years of learning what works for my body and what doesn't. I love NF.com and I'm excited to be a part of the community now!

Glad to welcome a new rebel

& a pretty badass rebel at that.

As atomicspud was saying there is an entire portion of the forum called the Monk's Dojo with fellow fighters and martial arts enthusiasts.

Also the current six week challenge is 10 days from completion, and then normally a week or two break before the next one starts. But when it does start, pick some goals and do it! Having your goals out there is on Nerd Fitness is great motivation.

Thanks for the welcome, Pheidippides! Hey, I came in at the right time for a six-week challenge, it sounds like. Thanks for the heads up!
