Can a 9v baterry power a 12v LED strip for a Lightsaber?

Recommended Posts

Best way to run LEDs off a 9v battery is to get 3v LEDs with a resister designed to run on 9v. Amazon or Ebay has them. Just look for 9v LEDs. They just come with an inline resistor already attached.

Would wiring up a 9V in series with 2x AAs (1.5V each) work?

I read that is not safe to mix different battery types because it can lead to leakage or poor battery life. Either way, I'm making a prop and it is a prototype. I know for a fact that the 9v can power the strip so, I will go with it for now.
