What's your ultimate nerd workout mix? I'll start ...

Recommended Posts

Maybe this has already been posted. If so, can someone please point me to the thread?

If not, what do you all listen to during your workouts that really pump you up? I'd love to see what everyone listens to. Even if it's not the same genres, maybe we can all get a few ideas we'd never otherwise think about.

I'll start with some of my heavy rotation - This is in no particular order though I firmly believe order matters. I'm still trying to perfect what goes in and where.

  • Freedom; Rage Against the Machine - This always brings me back to my "fight the man" days in college. It always pumps me up.

  • Livin' on a Prayer; Bon Jovi - It's the key change that gets me

  • Right Here Right Now; Fatboy Slim - Just a cool intense song that helps me at the end of a workout

  • Kickstart My Heart; Motley Crue - A great workout opener

  • Interlude; Attack Attack! - Some love to my Alma Mater UNI

  • Sabotage; Beastie Boys - Rest in Peace MCA

  • Two Weeks; All That Remains - A good hard rock song - if you're into that sort of thing

  • Come Together; Primal Scream - Another good "closer"

  • Man in the Mirror; Michael Jackson - What can I say? I'm a sucker for key changes, and this song has one of the best

Well that's a sampling of my stuff. What are everyone else's faves?

Kickstart My Heart; Motley Crue - A great workout opener

Oh hell yes!!!!

For me:

Propellerheads - Breezeblock 2001 mix. Dunno why, but it gets me moving every time. Reminds me of good times :)

I can't find a link to the mix, but here's the tracklist.

Nick Thayer always gets me jumping too.

If i'm feeling like a more intense/agressive workout, i'll lean towards some Andy C Nightlife 1 or some

.

I guess I like working out to tunes/mixes I know well, rather than new ones. It helps me get in the zone.

I'm not big on mixes. If I am lifting it's usually a full album. Frequents are Queens of The Stone Age- QotSA and Songs for the Deaf, White Stripes - De Stijl, Gza- Liquid Swords, Raekwon- Only Built for Cuban linx and Outkast- Aquemini. If I'm riding my bike it's a random Phish or Grateful Dead concert.

I love running to the Legend of Zelda orchestra cd that came with Skyward Sword.

Also, anything by Four Year Strong, Relient K, Fun., or Skillet.

...and anything by Chameleon Circuit. Gotta love some Timelord Rock.

I haven't tested my own mix yet, but I did put a mix together from most of the songs that I find deeply stirring, so I'm confident in my mix's motivational capacity. :smug: Now, with that disclaimer, a sampling of mine is the following:

Wagner: Ride of the Valkyries (from The Ring Trilogy)

Carmina Burana: O Fortuna!

Ok Go: Invincible & Get Over It

Thomas Bergerson: Age of Gods, Rada, Sonera, Starvation, Ocean Princess (among others)

Albannach: Unleash the Albannach, Burlin, & Claymores

Florence + The Machine: Shake It Out; No Light, No Light

Gorillaz: Feel Good Inc., All Alone, White Light

Rise Against: Help is On the Way

The Cruxshadows: Winter Born (This Sacrifice)

That's some of them.

I have two playlists, one for workouts and another for running.

My workout playlist is more intense and helps me remain "present"-

Rollins Band, Fugazi, Faith No More, Metallica, Dropkick Murphys, Rage Against the Machine, etc

My running playlist is all about maintaining a steady tempo and helps "take me elsewhere" while I run-

Aesop Rock, Doomtree, MC Chris, Eyedea & Abilities, Dilated Peoples

Like some other posters I have different music for running and for lifting.

For running I like to listen to hiphop, listening to lyrics helps me keep me from getting bored. Current mix:

Eminem - 'Til I Collapse

Dr. Dre - I Need A Doctor

Tupac - Can't C Me

Tupac - Hit 'Em Up

Nas - Take It In Blood

Nas - NY State Of Mind

N.W.A. - Always Into Somethin'

Tech N9ne - Like Yeah

Tech N9ne - Absolute Power

Ice Cube - Pushin' Weight

Ice Cube - Go To Church

For lifting, it's all about metal and grindcore. I tend to just listen to whole albums rather than making playlists. Most often I like to use:

Deicide - Once Upon The Cross

Morbid Angel - Altars Of Madness

Leng T'che - Death By A Thousand Cuts

The Day Everything Became Nothing - Invention:Destruction

Origin - Antithesis

Last Days Of Humanity - Putrefaction In Progress

Insect Warfare - World Extermination

Pig Destroyer - Prowler In The Yard

Grave - Into The Grave

Devourment - Molesting The Decapitated

Basically anything that's really really fast and/or has big dumb slam breakdowns, preferably both.

FLATSNAP

Troll Warrior - Squad A
