JimBob
Anybody know if Oat Groats are considered Paleo? If so, why? If not, why not? Link to comment
andygates
Oats are grains, doesn't that mean "not"? Link to comment
ICB
Paleo sort of breaks into two camps: avoiding carbs for insulin/hormonal/nutrition reasons; and avoiding grains for inflammation and nutrient-deficit reasons. As a cereal, groats are high in carbs. As a grain, groats contain the endosperm, which causes inflammatory allergic responses in the stomach and intestine and acts as a nutrient magnet, sucking up needed minerals on its way out of the body.Short answer: No, not paleo. Grains bad, meat good. Link to comment
