In no particular order:

1. Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral: hard to pick any one album as I love everything Trent does but I think TDS is by far the most complete, The Fragile is a close runner up, in fact the first 7 tracks are all incredible but it suffers from the problem of being a double album and whilst there are still some great songs after those first 7 there are also just a few that aren't on the same level

2. Tool - Lateralus: again I love all of Tool's work and I could pick any of their albums but Lateralus was the first I bought and still my favourite

3. Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream: Mellon Collie has some great tracks but, like The Fragile, suffers from being a double album and there are a few tracks which feel like filler and a few that, while still being good tracks, feel a bit raw and simplistic compared with other Pumpkins work

4. Biffy Clyro - The Vertigo Of Bliss: I think realistically this could be any of Biffy's first three albums, there are five tracks on Blackened Sky that are five of my all time favourites but the rest of the album isn't quite as good, similarly Infinity Land has a few tracks that I absolutely love and a few that are good but not great, Vertigo wins out on the basis of being the most complete album out of the three

5. A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms: big fan of Maynard James Keenan so he gets two entries on the list, I love Thirteenth Step as well, particularly because it shows a bit of stylistic growth rather than just doing more of the same, but there are just too many good tracks on Mer De Noms to pass it up

There are loads of other albums that could be on the list (Led Zeppelin IV, Appetite for Destruction, Master of Puppets, to name a few) that I love and formed the basis of my taste in music but I kind of see them as classics that most people into hard rock will know and love whereas the ones I've listed are more representative of my own more alternative taste

Courage is finding the inner strength and bravery required when confronting difficulty or opposition. It is the energy current behind all great actions and the spark that ignites the initial baby steps of growth. It resides deep within each of us, ready to be accessed in those moments when you need to forge ahead or break through seemingly insurmountable barriers. It is the intangible force that propels you forward on your journey.

Brand New grows with every album, been waiting on a new one for awhile

They're like cicadas. They reemerge every 5 years to release a new album, then go back into hibernation.

How does one forget about Cursive!!?

One rips the CD to an MP3 player, which later dies. One also learns a lesson about backing up data.

I don't know if anyone will know these... but...

Silence - Blindside

Who Can Know It? - Showbread

In Shallow Seas We Sail - Emery

Burning Bridges - Haste The Day

Rival Factions - Project 86

I've heard some stuff by Emery, and I've heard of Haste the Day. Funny story involving Emery. My friend has similar tastes as my brother, so one year I asked him for band suggestions for a Christmas present. Among his suggestions was Emery. So I gave my brother Emery, and now he loves them. Well, my brother just posted In a "Win Win Situation" on my Facebook wall, and I really liked it...so I may become an Emery fan soon myself! As a sidenote, "In Shallow Seas We Sail" is one of my bro's favorites.

To the OP...wow, it's really hard for me to pick, but here goes. Here's a sampling of my top albums, in no particular order:

Illusions - Thomas Bergerson

The 50 Greatest Pieces of Classical Music - Various

All Things Bright and Beautiful - Owl City

Lungs - Florence + The Machine

Sack of Tunes - The Demerits

Yes, I have divergent tastes. Why do you ask?

Off the top of my head, without sitting and thinking about it for hours, I would say:

1. Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf

2. Sparks - Kimono My House

3. LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver

4. The Beatles - Revolver

5. Talking Heads - 77

Thinking about it as a desert island discs type of list, I would be happy to listen to those albums over and over for years to come.

I AM going the distance

'Cause all I wanna do is go the distance. Nobody's ever gone the distance with Creed, and if I can go that distance, you see, and that bell rings and I'm still standin', I'm gonna know for the first time in my life, see, that I weren't just another bum from the neighborhood.

I think it's really interesting when i look on this list and see the same bands being repeated. Must be a sign they are truly great huh?

You have no idea how difficult it is for me to pick something like this. This is an incredibly painstaking process that i was wracking my brain on all morning trying to narrow down. I may list more than five because of this reason.

The Furious Five

1) Thrice - The Alchemy Index

2) The Beatles - Abbey Road

3) The Kills - Blood Pressures

4) Fiona Apple - Tidal

5) The Dead Weather - Sea of Cowards

The Other albums I feel like I need to list as honorable mentions

6) The Beatles - The White Album

7) Damien Rice - O

8) Rolling stones - Sticky Fingers

9) Muse - Every one of their albums except for Resistence (and I just found out that they released a new album this year which I have not heard some how)
