HansBraggart
I live in a rented house, and I have found numerous lengths of metal pipe all over the property since I have been there. Have sat idly in my random materials pile for months, it may finally get used! I wonder if there is a way I make make a dumbell out of it?It is hollow metal pipe, and it weighs a decent amount alone. What do y'all (that's right, I am from Texas) think? Corbab
Have you thought about a t-handle? With a heavy enough pipe, it could be a piece of equipment in and of itself, and you could add some plates to it once you get going. Never think of pain or danger or enemies a moment longer than is necessary to fight them. -Ayn Rand Amongst those less skilled you can see all this energy escaping through contorted faces, gritted teeth and tight shoulders that consume huge amounts of effort but contribute nothing to achieving the task. Gainsdalf the Whey
I wouldn't do it. You have no idea the strength of the pipe and metal is sharp if it fractures. If it's strong enough, make a pull up bar, but I wouldn't load anything more than 200 or so on a piece of scrap metal. HansBraggart
thanks, CoreyD! i was not planning to load anywhere near 200 lbs on there...at least, not in the short term. the pipe weighs and feels very strong, but your response gives me much to think about. andygates
Cheap barbells for your range of lifting are common on craigslist etc. Hollow pipe will bend at a hilariously inappropriate moment. Link to comment
Sloth the Enduring
You could stick the ends in buckets and fill buckets with cement. If the bar is steel, which it almost certainly is, it will bend before it fractures. “We might as well start where we are, use what we have and do what we can." – Caitlin Rivers Sloth: The Man with the Hammer battle log Link to comment
Gainsdalf the Whey
Depending on how brittle it is and the condition, it could fracture only after a small amount of bending. If there's any rust on there, areas that have been thinned out can go pretty easily. Anivair
If it's fairly short or threaded on either end, you can make a clubbell. I made mine and I love them. Level 3 Human Ranger STR: 9 DEX: 5.25 STA: 14.5 CON: 5.5 WIS: 16 CHA: 5.5 My Current Challenge Link to comment
