I'm just starting my journey from a very similar place as you started from a year ago.  This is a massive motivation to really keep my eye on the prize in a few months time so thank you!!

 

Can I ask what strength training you do?  I'm starting out with bodyweight training for the first 3 or so months to get vaguely back into shape then thinking about joining a gym to get into barbell training, does this sound sensible?

 

and as i said, huge congratulations! you are my new inspiration and motivation!

It sounds sensible.  I don't do the whole barbell thing.  I work out at home and have no reasonable place (or the $$) for a barbell setup.  I do bodyweight exercises and dumbell/vest weighted bodyweight exercises (like weighted pistol squats and weighted chinups).
