100 Push Up Challenge

Recommended Posts

I tried this a few months ago. For me it advanced too quickly. I repeated weeks over and over. I got to where I could do about 60 good form pushups in a row before throwing in the towel. Now I just do 4x15 when I do pushups. Sent using Tapatalk 2

Agreed here (as others have stated as well).  I got started at like "Week 3" since I could already do 25 when I tried this.  I think I tried Week 4 like 5 times before finally getting frustrated and giving up on it.  To be fair though, my diet sucked and that was the only form of exercise I was doing at the time (like 3 years ago).

my back isn't 100% so I'm holding off for now. (waiting impaciently)

I'm probably going to do something like this

harder progression 1-2 sets, full rest

6-10+ sets of regular with short rest

I may also sub in a burpee workout sometimes to keep things interesting

Day 2 in the books and onto Day 3 tomorrow. Days 1 and 2 were rough, so I'm sure Day 3 will be just as fun.

That's okay. For days 1-3 I haven't gone about the minimum on the final set. And I've had to break it up into 3-4 parts (with short five-second breaks) on that last set, too. Congrats, though! One week down.

here's my plan for now...

workout A

do a near max set (let's call it X reps)

rest one minute

then on the minute for 15 minutes

sets of X÷5

workout B

on the minute for 12 minutes

sets of X÷3

1-3 days rest between workouts

I'll reset X anytime I repeat workout A (goal +1 minimum)

I plan on doing this for the next few weeks to see how it goes

so far I finished A and B once. felt good

I used that program to go from about 64 reps in two minutes to 75 or so.  The other thing that really really helped me was doing lower numbers of aussie pullups to balance out the pushing.

A few other things:

Start at a lower level than you think you need to.

Doing the "max" reps until failure will burn you out a bit quicker.  I recommend doing more sets rather than fatiguing yourself.

If you break them up throughout the day, you can get the workout done twice without really impacting recovery time.

Well, day's 5 and 6 were good. Really tough, but pretty good. These days were both lower reps in more sets (except for the max set at the end). I know I'll be seeing a lot of improvement at the end of this, even if I don't make it to the hundred.

Ha. I definitely should have started one week lower than I did.

I'm thinking if I broke them up throughout the day, I wouldn't see as much progress in the endurance aspect of the challenge. Since the challenge is to do 100 in a row, I would think breaking up the sets throughout the day wouldn't prepare my muscles for the torment they'll be going through on test day. Just a thought.

To be honest, tomorrow (day 7) is gonna be rough. Really rough. I'm debating between going through with day's 7-9 (which is the last week of the program) or restarting back at week 4 and re-doing weeks 4 and 5 to better prepare myself for week 6. I have the time to do this week, then go back and do all three weeks over, but this week looks like a killer...

Hmm. I hadn't considered doing two-a-days. That sounds pretty good. I think I'll finish out this week, and then go back and start again at week 4, maybe doing some in the morning, then the full one at night. (Today was tough, but I got through it.)

outstanding! Sometimes you just have to be patient and stick through the rough patches.

My training has been on pause but I should be back at it soon.

I'm thinking of supersetting with pull-ups to get a little more bang for my workout buck.
