...... and off we go ......

Recommended Posts

What a great place you guys have here!! :)

Here goes....

I was within 10 lbs of my goal weight back in 2000..... then well, it was both down hill and up hill from there .... lol  I'm not tossing out any excuses though..... the weight settled in, and now it's gotta go.

December 2011 I fell down some stairs and badly sprained both my ankles.  The doctors and physio specialist that I visited all told me I would have been better off breaking them....   It has affected my activites greatly, I'm still in ankle braces whenever I'm active.  So running is out.  Although I am managing to slowly get back into ballroom and latin dancing this year :)  which is great!!!  Because I missed it greatly after my fall.  Dance shoes with heels are out ... lol ..... but thankfully there is a great selection of dance sneakers out there! :D

So here I am..... as of this week the wii fit has me at about 190-191 lbs.... which is an improvement from 215, which is what it was about a year ago :D  go me!  lol  It's slow.... but I will admit I haven't "really" been hard at it, more picking at it..... It's time to get more serious about it.

I've set some harder deadlines to make me take this more seriously.  There are a few things I want to do/purchase, but those things are on hold until I hit my deadlines.  I don't reach them, I don't get to do/purchase the "prize".

Deadlines:

  • December 16 2013
    • 15-30 lbs off
    • Do 10+ normal full push-ups without dropping in between
    • Do 5+ Burpees (this terrifies me)
  • March 17 2014
    • 20-30 lbs off
    • Do 20+ normal full push-ups without dropping in between
    • Do 10+ Burpees
    • Do 1+ pull-ups/chin-ups

How do I plan to get there?

  • Get off the darn sofa and get moving
  • Stop snacking on garbage at night
  • Skip that beer with dinner
  • Pass on the buns or the crackers
  • Bring the 45min focused workout into my routine.... even if it means doing it first thing in the morning
  • Get back in the pool --- I was a trained lifeguard at one point, I don't think I could save myself at this point

So there it is..... the basics..... wow.

Now to keep hunting around on here for some challenges to help keep my motivation high!  :onthego:

I understand the ankle dilemma. ... I've been in a cast twice for sprained ankle (and one time I tore ligaments enough that I was told that if the year had been a centimeter longer it would have required surgery!) I can't count the time I've been I'm crutches due to sprains. ... I can however attest to how awesome training is and getting strength. ... haven't sprained in over a year (although I did break my foot last year but that's a different story! ) anyway welcome to the rebellion and here's to strong ankles!

Ouch! I hope you feel better soon! It sounds like dancing is a real passion for you. That's great! Dancing is such a beautiful thing, and a sport in of itself a lot of the time.  :joyous:

As for the weight thing, I completely understand. I've yoyo-ed myself and I know how tough it is on a person. But it looks like you have a serious plan of action you're taking to win the battle, which is far more than I can say. You also sound very motivated and strong--just the qualities you need to achieve your goals.

Sounds like you have some great realistic goals!! I am also aiming to lose 50-60 pounds. I was 190 a month ago, and 180 today, so if you need a cheering squad I'll be in it! Just keep at it, even when you don't feel like it. Someone told me once "You won't regret doing it, but you may regret not doing it" so this is my mantra whenever I want to give up. You can do this!!

You won't regret doing that workout, but you may regret not doing it. So get your butt in gear and get to it!

You wouldn't happen to have any suggestions for target exercises to help strengthen ankles?  I've got a few from the docs/specialist that I went to, but I'd love to hear what you've been doing to strengthen yours!  It's a constant up and down battle with mine still..... but I'm sure the extra weight isn't doing them any good at all :)

:D  I will admit..... a lot of my motivation is being pissed off at the fact that I'm going in circles and getting no where when it comes to my weight loss ... lol ..... so here I am .... stopping for directions :D

I am a hiker... and a biker (I bike long distances regularly and I tackle increasingly long/difficult hikes)

for me it has been finding shoes with adequate support (I know a large portion of this site prefers minimalist shoes but I need the suppost!!) and then just slowly increasing my distances and my difficulty... I do squats and deadlifts at the gym.... I don't really have any major secrets
