msvanhorn
My name is Mike and I'm 47 years old. I've been a Nerd for as long as I can remember (well before it was cool) and I can remember playing the original Ultima on an Apple IIe with 64k memory and floppy disks that you had to swap for progress. When it comes to fitness, I am blessed with good overall health, I still have my appendix, tonsils, and wisdom teeth. I enjoy working out, but I lack the motivation to keep it up for the long term just for my own benefit. I have worked through P90x, Insanity, and general light jogging etc. My wife and I do a lot of outdoors activities, and we enjoy camping, hiking, and kayaking best. I am blessed to have a lovey wife and partner in Casey. We have been together for 30 years, and married for 26. Doing the math, you will see that we started dating in High School. Being a Nerd 1.0, I was stunned that any girl found me interesting, and haven't let go of her since. I don't have many friends outside of work, typical Nerd introvert I guess. I really enjoyed a 6 month stretch at work where we setup an impromptu gym in the basement and a small group came together in the morning to work out. Then I took a new position at work and now I am traveling to Houston, TX every other week, so that entire routine fell apart. I need to find the inner motivation / reason to set aside the time and workout. So far, just saying "It's important" hasn't been enough. I'm looking forward to connecting deeper with the Nerd Fitness community and sharing stories / supporting others. Take care and May the Rebellion Continue! Mike Quote Link to comment
ErikaisEpic
Hey Mike! It is great to meet you. I know what you mean about falling back on your goals. I have tried many-a-time to start working-out and getting healthy, but every time I have fallen back into old habits. Here you will have support and it is good to know you want to give support back as well. The signs of a good team member! Welcome to the rebellion! msvanhorn
Thank you for the kind words and support. I think I'm fighting a bit of a bug this weekend, so not much extra activity, but hope to feel better soon. Quote Link to comment
ErikaisEpic
Oh that is upsetting, but you are staying optimistic and that is great. Rooting for you, Mike! MissoulaSquatch
Welcome Mike, I'm new here as well. I felt a compulsion to post up when I saw your mention of the Apple IIe, which easily tops the Apple IIgs I picked up about 13 years ago..alas, I took it apart and put it together one too many times and bricked mine.. Good luck with your goals here, I'm still working my way around figuring out how everything works before I jump in fully! Quote How to become Sasquatch Link to comment
