Hi Everybody! I've been reading NF for a few months and lurking around the message boards or the past couple of weeks, so I figured it was time to jump in. Here's a quick back story:

Grade School: Scrawny nerd.

High School: Three sport athlete (football, wrestling, track), but at 5'9" and 135, still a scrawny nerd. Tried everything in my power to bulk up, but was clueless and ineffective.

College & Beyond: Focus on education & career (software engineer). Metabolism down, weight up.

The wake up call came in my annual physical last year when the nurse informed that at 5'9" and 199 my BMI classified me as "obese". Now I know that the BMI is a terrible system, but I also know that I was in fact overweight. In response to this I became very serious about my fitness and dieted and ran myself back into shape.

The problem is that by "back into shape" I mean that I was once again a scrawny nerd. With some encouragement from this site and others I added weight training into my workouts and it is now my primary focus.

I'm now up to 156 and my lifts are progressing nicely. I'm looking forward to participating in this community to learn whatever I can and help out whenever possible.
