Vilegrin
Hey everyone wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. In the digital realm I’m known as Vilegrin. In the real world “There are some who call me… Timâ€I’ve spent all my life being a “big guy†which I have never minded. I have never really suffered any hardships as a result of my weight, except buying clothes! Lol or teasing over my size growing up (I have just dismissed the individual as a douche and not thought anymore about it). But the older I get the more I realize that one day I will not have the strength that I do now. This little fact scares me quite possibly more than the idea of dying. I’ve always been that guy that could move or lift anything within reason. One day I know I will push, pull, lift with everything that I have and the object will not budge. So I know I need to do something to slow the speed at which that will occur. Secondly, it doesn’t matter if my weight and size doesn’t mentally bother me. It’s bothering my body! The older I get the more I notice my size taking its toll on me. I plan to be the oldest man to ever live and that just won’t be as cool if I hurt too much to walk and have to be carried around. (Unless it’s more like Slann Mage Priest then I am totally cool with that…bring on the palanquin!) So what’s a guy to do? Lifting! Strength training! I have been a lurker on Nerd Fitness for a really long time now. Through NF I discovered Stronglifts 5x5 which I love and plan to continue to do. My other plan is Mother Nature herself. I love to hike and camp and really want to expand my outdoor portfolio to include kayaking and rock climbing. My diet: paleo. I have two major struggles with paleo. I am from the south where cornbread should always be available and I’m a whore for ice cream. I am a big believer in paleo. I really stuck to it for about 6 months (I mean 100%) and went from being an insulin dependent diabetic whose blood sugar was rarely ever under 400 to totally off all meds. I am still completely meds free to this day (a little over two years later) even though I’m probably about 60% paleo atm and some days not even that good L Since about November of last year life started to get a little wild and out of control and well frankly I let every excuse stop me from doing the things I knew I needed and wanted to do to stay on track. I had gone from 385ish to 285 before things went nuts. Between November of last year till the end of June this year I got back up to a little over 310. Getting back over 300 is what made me pump the brakes and take notice. I spent all of July making sure I got back in the gym and I have made some good gains (nothing to brag about but I am happy). I also spent the month counting calories, which is not my preferred method, but the one thing I do appreciate is how aware it makes you about what you eat. I will continue to count just for my own amusement and curiosity. Now August will be spent getting my diet to at least 80% of where it needs to be. My soul mate and life partner has been beside me every step of this journey and I am extremely thankful and fortunate to have her in my life. She helps to dull the pain of the failures and multiplies the joys of success. With her, there is nothing I can’t do. I weighed myself before I left for work this morning and the scale read 299.8. I’m back under 300, only 50 pounds till goal. I got this shit! 2 Quote Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. - Douglas Adams Link to comment
MaybeAFirst
Great work man, that's an amazing amount of weight lost already! Now just commit to eating well and you will be at your goal before you know it. If you wanted to try out rock climbing, you should see if there are any gyms nearby that offer starter/taster sessions, it's great fun! If you are in the UK, the BMC has a part on their site where you can look up local climbing walls and I'm sure there must be something similar in the US too. 1 Quote Challenge 3 | Challenge 2 | Challenge 1 L3 Elf: | 0 STR | 1.6 DEX | 7.4 STA | 6.8 WIS | 8.6 CON | 3.8 CHA | Overall Weight Loss Goal: 33.3%33.3% SW: 153lb CW: 142lb GW: 120lb Link to comment
Tanktimus the Encourager
You already know the drill, eat clean and lift heavy. Sounds like you're doing both. Why not sign up with the recruits for the current challenge? We're still on week one and the accountability might help you stick to your goals.Welcome to the Rebellion. 1 Quote Current Challenge "By the Most-Righteous-and-Blessed Beard of Sir Tanktimus the Encourager!" - Jarl Rurik Harrgath Link to comment

Yeah, I am in the US and we do have a few gyms around my area that offer climbing. That goal is a year or so off. I'd like to work on dropping a few pounds first. At the moment I can do one chin up! lol My girlfriend and I spend so much time hiking some really beautiful countryside. Even though I am scared shitless of heights I still can't help but to look at a few of the cliff sides and think how cool would that be to climb. 1 Quote Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. - Douglas Adams Link to comment
hwrdfrnd
A 300 lbs man doing a chin up is pretty damned impressive in my book. Get to 250 and you will be slamming them out like nobodies business! 2 Quote Hwrdfrnd - Goblin AdventurerSTR 0 | DEX 0 | STA 0 | CON 0 | WIS 0 | CHA 0Current Challenge Link to comment
