Introducing myself

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys, finally taking the plunge and looking to get involved in the community.

A Little bit of background to myself, my name is Robert (Rab) I'm 23 and I live in not so sunny Scotland. I live with partner of 3 years, and her son who is 6. My day job involves sitting behind a desk all day, discussing people's finances with them (Work in a bank), boring as hell, but can be quite rewarding at times too!

At the moment I'm currently tipping the scales at 256 lbs, I was at 286 at the start of the year so definitely heading in the right direction! My weight problems started at 16, at the time I was like any young fit teenager, I enjoyed socialising with my mates, playing sports, swimming etc and was fairly active. Then I got a nasty abscess at the base of my spine, which in the last 7 years has reoccurred 10 times, causing me to require 8 (minor) emergency operations, and two fairly big ones to try and correct the issue. During that time I have done what most other nerds would do, sit and play games on the pc and console, mainly WoW - For the Horde! - whilst eating and drinking copious amounts of stuff that is no good for me. Gradually worsening my health and putting me at higher risk of recurring the same problem as well as the myriad of other health risk that comes along with being a tubster!

I had corrective surgery in the summer of 2013 and thankfully have had no major problems healthwise since. Once I recovered I continued down the same old path that I had become accustomed to for the past 5 years and continued to pile the weight on. I decided at the start of this year that enough was enough and wanted to take action instead of my usual, I'll start that next week. Phase one was stopping smoking and I am pleased to report that I have not had a cigarette since February of this year. Once I was feeling like I had that under control, in True nerd fashion I researched the shit out of losing weight and following this, as mentioned, above, was able to shed 30 pounds this year, which I am massively proud of.

Not really sure how the whole community works but keen to get involved with a community of likeminded people, so if I can be pointed in the right direction(s) then awesome. I want to make 2016 my year to accomplish my fitness goals as well as other finance and work related ones too. I realised that it is hard to go it alone this year when trying to accomplish these goals, and the backing and community atmosphere, of like minded members of the rebellion would only help me meet those goals.

Welcome to the rebellion!

Ouch, sorry you had to put up with all these surgeries. That can't be easy. Congratulations on quitting smoking! I recently quit myself. Hang in there!

Don't worry about how the community works. You'll find out soon enough. :)

Good luck with your goals and keep us posted!

Cheers Guys, after poking about a bit I was trying to work out what my goals may be before getting started on the next challenge in the new year.

Main Quest for the year would be to get below 200 pounds by the time I am 25 - January 24th 2017. Definitely possible if I stick to it this year.

Can think of a few side quests to help support as the challenges go on.

Can't wait to get stuck in.
