odd woot, but I think it counts

Recommended Posts

I've been struggling off and on with a back injury over the past 2 years, and recently decided to take my own health into my hands and went Paleo + started strength training. At my 2010 and 2011 annual physicals the nurse told me that my "official" height was 5'3", which bugged me, since prior to being injured and going semi-sedentary I'd always had it measured officially at 5'4". Yea ok, I'm short, whatever, but when you're short every centimeter counts, right? I chalked the shrinkage up to the injury and "getting old sucks amirite?" Not to mention the ~15 extra pounds of flubber I'd packed on. So 5'3" and 162# of secretarial spread, awesome, huh?

So last fall I quit making excuses for the injury, got proper massage and started strength training, and cleaned up my diet in January. The diet fix gave me the energy to get back to riding my bike and doing some competitive running races, and in February I learned how to skate ski.

Well last week after 8 weeks of bodyweight workouts, doing stuff like planks and rows, 4 months of varying kettlebell workouts + lots and lots of mixed cardio and HIIT, plus stretching and massage, I went in for my annual and guess what?

***5'4" and 148# BABY***

I am a 43 year old woman and I not only lost 14 pounds going Paleo, but I appear to have "grown" an inch back. I'm betting it's simply due to improved posture and fitness.

Take THAT you BMI trolls!

Fantastic!

On a side note BMI sucks to start with.
