Lovefish`s newbie introduction

Ive been stalking this nerd fitness blog for a while so i thought screw it, its about time i write something and start to get involved.  Its been a rough 2017 and Ive been struggling for support from people around me and have up until recently been trying to motivation method to try to change myself for the better. I came across some NF youtube vids and they made a lot of sense to me. 

My life this year has pretty much been been I keep getting and losing temporary agency factory jobs through no fault of my own and am finding it difficult to find work where i live. So im basically almost perma broke, i sit around feeling sorry for myself drinking lots of soda, energy drinks and eating bad food. I stay up late gaming or watching tv, go to bed at 4-6am late and drag myself out of bed at 2pm or earlier if my gf yells at me to get up. Which tbh getting up most days feels utterly pointless.

The upshot of this is that i decided ive had enough of living this way, im going nowhere. i feel i can do a lot more than i am. So ive decided to reeducate myself and try have a career doing what i love. Im just about to sign up to college and take an access to higher education course which will take me to uni in a years time if i do well. Im having all kinds of fears and concerns about it as im 35 and its been nearly 20 years since i set foot in a college or school! Although i have a lot of fear linked with taking this path, i also know i cant carry on going in and out of temporary jobs i hate for the rest of my life. I have to take charge of my life and take more action.

Unfortunately im not in a financial position to buy any NF products but i do plan to once im working again. However im doing what i can and have already started my 4 week challenge page and am looking to reach out and find comrades that can big me up and i can big them up  I look forward to hearing back from you all

Hi lovefish, welcome!

 

I totally understand being perma-broke. But with the four week challenges and all the info and support on the forums, you can still do really well without paying for a program. Especially if you are interested in bodyweight exercises.

 

Do you know what you want to study in college?

I know those fears. I'm 34 and recently decided that I was tired of staying where I was at with no way of progressing. I too enrolled in college this last spring and have been taking classes. Fear of, "Will I have forgotten everything?" "Will I be able to keep up?" "Will I understand the material?" But I have found, it was not quite as scary as I worked it up in my head. In fact, I felt better after my first term back and I am excited for the term that is starting soon. You will too, I'm sure. We tend to work things up in our heads and turn molehills into mountains. If you ever want to vent about school, about them dang youngins (  ) or just the stress and pressures I'm here to listen. I'm going through it, we can go through it together.

Yes agreed i figured id have a go at the free things on the forum for now, i just thought i have nothing to lose and everything to gain. So far so good

Body weight workouts with be coming in although it looks like my college has a gym which if free would be very handy

yes im taking an access to science course and then at uni i want to specialise in some form of Biology more than likely Zoology ( marine biology,  herpetology).

Yes i have worried if" im good enough" or "can i still do it" or "am i to old" etc etc Like you say and im sure ill be fine once i get a few weeks in and get into a routine. I will be more settled then be less worried and lose less sleep haha. 

@GalaxyOrchidWhat are you studying? 

Thanks yes i keep in touch with you about studying etc and the offers open the other way give me a shout id be happy to hear about dem dang youngins  haha or anything else your struggling with

Im currently studying Political Science and studying for the LSATs. How about you?

Im taking a Access to higher education full time course with maths gcse part time course with a view to studying some kind of Biology more than likely Herpetology or Marine Biology

Going into Law and Politics! wow well done you can do it

I always thought Marine Biology was interesting. We have a Marine Science Center here where I live, and they took us on a field trip (many moons ago when I was in high school) to learn about it. It was fascinating! I'm not that familiar with Herpetology, but I did just look it up. That sounds interesting too! Man, reptiles or fish, both would be neat to work with and study.

Well i have a lot of experience with snakes already (used to breed them). Id love to chased Burmese Pythons around for a living lol Yes ive always been interested marine animals also, i wanted to be a marine biologist when i was a kid and go scuba diving here and there not easy 100 miles from the sea in every direction. The problem is the location of the courses. I want to study in London but theres only general Zoology courses based there. Tbh i wouldnt mind as its more general and leaves me open to specialisation later on, plus the London unis seem to offer a sandwich year studying abroad. If the Herpetology course was in London that would be the dream. Im going to make a short list and go to some open days and hopefully that will help me make a decision
