Help Me Pick Running Music

I'll be running my first 5k on Saturday and I want to put together a playlist that is so awesome that...I can't think of any good words to describe it. Anyway, I want an awesome playlist. So, I want you to list your favorite song to run to. I'll be listening to the music for the next few days and putting my favorites into my playlist. I'm not picky with the style and I don't even care if it's in English or not (I have a Mexican rap song in one of my playlists that a friend gave to me). All I care about is that for 3-5 minutes, I'm thinking about the music and not whether or not I'm going to make it through that song.

My submission for my own list is Carry on My Wayward Son by Kansas. (Because there will be peace when I am done)

I have lots of different stuff on my playlist. It ranges from punk rock (Rise Against, Against Me!) to alternative (Muse, Young the Giant, Awolnation), to rap (Kanye West, Jay-Z). As long as you pick songs you like and have a fast beat to keep you pumped, you can use pretty much anything.

If I had to suggest one song though, it would be My Body by Young the Giant. It seems fitting to me whenever I want to push myself a little harder.

well, I can read you my running playlist. It's a little ecclectic. Mostly it all just gets me pumped so, it works.

Invincible - OkGo

BodyMovin (fatboy slim remix) Beastie boys

Filthy/gorgeous - Scissor Sisters

My Body - Young the Giant (because, well, Steve's video always gets me wanting to work out)

212 (feat Lazy Jay) Azelia Banks

E-Pro -Beck

When They Come For Me - Linkin Park

Fat Bottomed Girls - Queen

Weapon of Choice - Fatboy slim

Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger - Daft Punk

Shimmy Shimmy Quarter Turn - HelloGoodbye

Elvis Aint Dead - Scouting for girls

My Sharona - The Knack

I Like the Way - Bodyrockers

Threshold - (from the scott pilgrim soundtrack)

Goodbye Mr A - The Hoosiers

THAT oughta get you through a five k even if you only pick half.

They/them please

I'm a big fan of either Atmosphere or Audioslave while I run.... Not necessarily great tempo all the time but it gets me going... Audioslave "I am the Highway" or "Gasoline" dope!

Agreed - I think a lot of it comes down to personal taste, it's really just all about finding songs that get YOU in the right state of mind..

One other note - the tracks I'd listen to when going for a regular(cruising, semi-relaxing) run are a bit different from what I'd listen to when I'm really trying to push myself. Tempos are about the same, but the latter would be much more aggressive than the former.

One of my favorites is "The Pretender" by the Foo Fighters. Actually, several of my favorite running tracks are by the Foo Fighters.

I have a wide array as well, but I have found that I have to start with one song that is my current best start pace, to get me going right. It is currently Magic by B. o. B. /Rivers Cuomo. I need to start looking for my next pace song though :)
