While not exactly motivator in the sense of lyrics, I always like to begin my workouts with Bedroom Hymns by Florence + The Machine since the rythm of the song is so enticing to get up and moving... Also, Requiem for a Jerk, the Brian Molko homage to Serge Gainsbourg, is prety awesome (particularly at the middle of your workout, when you start feeling down)

Quinn, I have a ton of songs that i just can't sit still too, but this is my get outta bed song in the morning - i just get goosebumps every time i hear this version. The version is by a local Capetonian band (that rocks) and whenever i hear this i feel like i am ready to head into battle. You've heard the original but it doesn't quite do what this version does for me :)

Staring down demons, down at ____

Step-dad was a drunk and every weeknight was a battle

Rubbing elbows with the morning cattle, sacrifices

Living with the demons and all their surprises

I couldn't ask them to leave

I just invited them in

I can't believe what I just did

Shoved my face inside my pillow

Said Hail Mary's 'til I turned purple

It won't break me down

Won't leave me paralysed

I will spit fire on the pyres of the guilty

That relate but see right through me

I will spit fire

I guess you didn't get the note on the nightstand (Forgot to read it)

About setting the house on fire

Some other a witness to my offense just pissed on the evidence

Now everybody wants to know what the dark's hiding

One day I'll cash your death check

Buy the greatest and the respectable

That thought had crossed my mind

Oh yes, that thought had crossed my mind

I'll take my chances, walking on the wire

Not smart enough to keep my feet out of the fire

With the fear and the pain kept buried alive

This beast inside metastasises

Crawling deeper (Cut wide open)

Viciously and without warning

It won't break me down

Won't leave me paralysed

I will spit fire on the pyres of the guilty

That relate but see right through me

I will spit fire

When I've given up all I've got

When my guts are tied in knots

It won't break me down

Won't leave me paralysed

I will spit fire

One day I will cash your death check

Make believers of the impossible

And I might drop my excesses

The meanest and the unlikeable

But you won't break me down

You won't put out the fires that I spit out

gürol ağırbaş carmen (which I cannot find on you tube because the beginning is incredible)

or

Ive used both of these on mixed-tapes for myself and friends as opening tracks.

(im hoping to get to dance to one of them in the spring. haven't decided which one yet)

O gods, thank you! Love that version of Carmina Burana (sounds like a combo of Carmina, Cheb Mami and Loreena Mckennitt. Definitely going onto my "inspirational" playlist.

By way of payback, is THIS the version of Carmen you were looking for?

O my gods! Thank you! This song is now back to back with

version of the same theme (yes, I've adopted this as "Tengu's Theme", all versions welcome).

Of course, I follow that right up with

piece (this specific piece), because it sounds SO "Barbarian badass" during a workout ("One more pushup, you BITCH!") :)

As much as I love metal and tech and dub, I just can't work out to them or get inspired. Soundtrack-type music for this black bird!

Just Fracking DO it!

Dude, I am totally ganking that Carmina Burana for ass-busting purposes. Thank you!

Anybody who likes that may also like the

. I love it for running -- I can't hear that massive frame drum without going faster. There's a ton of their stuff on Spotify.

Here's some stuff I worked out to today that got me in gear:

Especially for jumprope: Hot Chip, "Over And Over."

over and over and over and over and over

like a monkey with a miniature cymbal

the joy of repetition really is in you

under and under and under and under and under

the smell of repetition really is on you

and when i feel this way i really am with you

Mark Foster, Kimbra and A-Trak, "Warrior"

Florence and the Machine, "Dog Days Are Over"

I used these for burpees -- rest during the slow verses, burpees when the chorus kicks in. You WILL pick yourself off the floor and do another one:

Run fast for your mother run fast for your father

Run for your children for your sisters and brothers

Leave all your love and your longing behind you

Can't carry it with you if you want to survive

The dog days are over

The dog days are done

Can't you hear the horses

'Cause here they come

Totally different genre (ska) from everything else I saw listed, this is my favorite workout theme song. The band is Starpool, the song is "You Know You Want It." Makes me happy, and makes me want to get moving. Even sitting in my office is more enjoyable to this song :)

Great song by a great band. Nice choice!

Indestructible by Disturbed is a good song for this but my personal favourite is found below:

The song that makes me motivated/makes me give everything I've got (and then some more) is

Somewhere between happy, and total fucking wreck

Feet sometimes on solid ground, sometimes at the edge

To spend your waking moments, simply killing time

Is to give up on your hopes and dreams, to give up on your...

Life for you, (who we are) has been less than kind

So take a number, (who we are) stand in line

We've all been sorry, (who we are) we've all been hurt

But how we survive, (who we are) is what makes us who we are

An obvious disinterest, a barely managed smile

A deep nod in agreement, a status quo exile

I shirk my obligations, I miss all your deadlines

I excel at quitting early, and fucking up my life

Life for you, (who we are) has been less than kind

So take a number, (who we are) stand in line

We've all been sorry, (who we are) we've all been hurt

But how we survive, (who we are) is what makes us who we are

All smiles and sunshine, a perfect world on a perfect day

Everything always works out, I have never felt so fucking great

All smiles and sunshine, a perfect world on a perfect day

Everything always works out, I have never felt so great
