He made that choice specifically because he knew a movie could not get into the mind of Ender the same way the first book did. But bringing in Bean's perspective means they don't have to resort to heavy narration, or anything like that. Aha... this may explain some of the stuff I saw in the previews that made me think Ender knew too much... it was probably Bean. This gives me a bit more hope... Personally when I go to see a movie based on a book, I always go with the presumption that the book would have been better, and that Hollywood seems to have to add some action scenes or other stuff just to Hollywoodize it. Agreed, not sure why they had to add a surgery scene. But I am impressed by the geekery of it all. And my hubby is a UW alumni and my son goes there, so for me, it kind of makes me want to see it more. My son saw the movie and he said they changed a few details of that part, but the basic idea lined up with the book. UltanBoyd Posted November 10, 2013 Report Share Posted November 10, 2013 My thoughts were that it was too compressed. It felt like the whole thing took place in a year and Bean was barely in it. I also felt like they were angling for a teen date movie with the Petra thing. Don't get me wrong she's important both as a strong member of the jeesh but also as surrogate Val, they just made it seem like there was room for romance there.
