Beaucastle
Do we have any Linux wizards among us?I've been handed a work project and I really need someone to talk to about this, who could answer a few basic questions and provide me with a "go that way" nudge. healplz
I have some lite experience, but what sort of help specifically are you needing? Is it something you can post here or do you need to keep it in PMs? Quote The secret of getting ahead is getting started. wildross
I'm not sure what you mean by "native event logging" (sounds Windowish) but.. On a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 or 6 box all the log files are only viewable by root, or someone with sudo rightsthe default log file is /var/log/messagesboot messages can be found in /var/log/boot.logRecent kernel messages can be seen either with the 'dmesg' command or by looking at /var/log/dmesgVarious programs will create their own files in /var/log, or even entire directory structures, such as /var/log/httpd for the Apache web serverSome 3rd party software will create log files under their own directory structure (bad programmers), which are "usually" under /optWhat are you looking for in particular? As to how to update it, that's going to be a bit of work. Do you have a valid subscription for it? And if isn't hooked up to the network at all...what is it doing? Basically you will need to pull down all the updates to another box, burn them to cd or usb, carry them to your box and then manually install them. I'll PM you and you can call me Monday...
