Fink
So I know that music is one of the greatest ways to get you pumped for working out, but whats the mental motivator that flashes in your head when your trying to go big or get that last rep out? Quote Link to comment
Rosie
Music is definitely my biggest motivator to get that last bit of juice out but also the mental thought of "Come on, I know I can do this!!!" usually helps too Quote [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Twitter Blog Attributes: Strength (STR): 3 Dexterity (DEX): 1 Stamina (STA): 4 Constitution (CON): 2 Wisdom (WIS): 3 Charisma (CHA): 2 Link to comment

spatzcat
honey. a tsp of honey before the workout. that and awesome music.oh, just read the actual question. Mental motivator! I want to be bad ass. I want to be better than everyone around me. This is the forum where we can tell people things that we may not tell others.....other peoples failures breed my success, yeah, it's dark and evil, but it's true. While I watch people around me get fatter and more unhealthy, It pushes me harder to not let that be me. Quote Never let your fear decide your fate. Link to comment

Gainsdalf the Whey
I want to be better than everyone around me.For running, when I'm having trouble continuing, I envision myself running by everyone else toward the end of a race. I even pump up the speed a little bit to force myself to stop being a bitch. It's even more bad ass when I have a great song playing, like Flirtin with Disaster or Harder, Better, Faster Stronger. For lifting, I get pissed at the bar and curse at it in my head. I get really derogatory and really put it down. Then I lift it and try to throw it through the roof. Zorch
I remind myself of how I used to be, and how the key to self-improvement is not accepting excuses - just getting out there and giving it everything you can(this doesn't just apply to fitness). Also, being a competitive person by nature, I don't just compare my present self to my former self, but I also gauge myself relative to others. The good news is that my gym has some people that are pretty strong/in excellent shape, so I still have a decent source of motivation every day. KeysMcGee
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Same thing that I used to get through auditions in high school band, same thing that got me through the Praxis II in college with a broken wrist, same thing that gets me through any tense situation...I empty my mind, find my Zen, and think nothing. You know, why don't you go online and buy a hundred envelopes and put them in the closet? And so I pretend not to hear her. And go out to get an envelope because I'm going to have a hell of a good time in the process of buying one envelope. I meet a lot of people. And, see some great looking babies. And a fire engine goes by. And I give them the thumbs up. And, and ask a woman what kind of dog that is. And, and I don't know. The moral of the story is, is we're here on Earth to fart around. And, of course, the computers will do us out of that. And, what the computer people don't realize, or they don't care, is we're dancing animals. You know, we love to move around. scotticus
I just think of that video of Ronnie Coleman, shouting like a lunatic "Lightweight, LIGHTWEIGHT!" as he deadlifts, like, 3975375234598230984lbs for a couple of reps. That perspective makes my set weights much more manageable.EDIT: I also have a printed sheet of my intermediate goal weights for various lifts pinned up beside my power rack. I stare at that b@st@rd for every set of squats, deads, chins, and OHP. Might need to put one on the ceiling for bench... Quote Link to comment

Fogo
My Xbox has ruined me - specifically the achievements. I just picture myself grinding towards an achievement (number of reps, weight goal, etc.), and that keeps me going some days. It also helps that I have a couple of these scattered throughout my workout playlist. (They're actually timed so they play at the point where if I'm running on pace, I hit another mile.)That, and just plain old narcissism - I just picture what I look like now, what I used to look like, and the reason that picture just keeps getting better.
