Bruce! My birthday is wednesday! So we can nerd celebrate together, only I could be your mom...LOL

My birthdays are usually pretty good. I only had one very bad one when we had a HUGE blizzard and it was the first birthday my mom wasn't there for. This birthday she is gonna be away again, but since i have my family with me, it will be fine--this will be the first one my oldest daughter is at college, but since she is home this weekend, we can celebrate!!!

I am 28 this year in June and my friends and I might just go for dinner , another friend and I have our birthdays close together so we might come up with a plan . Going to convince them to do something fun , laser tag or something . I am just not into going clubbing anymore .

My last birthday I had the flu , and that was just a month before my boyfriend dumped me ( thank god ) and he didn't get me anything , just wrote a card saying some nice things which seemed very scripted .

On my 21st I dressed up as wonder woman and my friends and I went to a gay club .

I picked up some cupcakes and brought them to work, mostly to set the precedent. Now people are expected to bring tasty things on their birthdays. I call that a win. Over the weekend afterwards my boyfriend and I went to one of those "paint your own pottery" places, I did a cool mosaic style coaster which I now keep at work, it was good fun. We were also having his aunt over that for dinner that weekend, and she brought me a cake and some nice new cufflinks.

Not the most amazing of birthdays, but I enjoyed it.

I grew up as a Jehovah's Witness so I didn't celebrate any birthdays till my 28th when I jumped religion ship. But my first celebration ended up bad as my best friend canceled on dinner because her and her husband were fighting etc. I haven't actually had a great birthday since I started celebrating them but they aren't really that important to me since I grew up without them.

My twenty-first birthday I was awakened with someone pounding on my door. Opened the door to find two guys in robes, carrying candles, who handed me a scroll and told me I had 2 minutes to made a decision. I read it, said I would go with them. They put a hood over my head and...

yeah. this is the nicest thing thats been done for me in probably 6 years. it was great. hopefully i get to spend some time with my pals tomorrow. I like the idea of taking $100 and going to the casino for nickle slots. great idea.

How about you come down to Florida? Nobody will go paintballing or laser tag with me, either. And you should do something fun for your birthday! So... vacation on the beach and laser tag? Haha

My birthday will consist of whatever during the day then the midnight showing of The Avengers. I love having a birthday so close to when awesome movies come out.

My birthday week I get to watch that as well (May 1st), so I am thoroughly looking forward to it.

Bruce, I am glad your coworkers have your birthday weekend off to a great start.

I wish I could say I had a string of bad birthdays, but it has been well overall a decade since my last "bad" birthday. Even then, I was just disappointed by what I didn't get (shallow, I know).

I've just realized, as I've gotten older, to take my birthday by the nuts and make it what I want it to be (which is usually a drunken night of debauchery).

So make your 30th as grand as YOU want it to be. Go get drunk and gamble at the casino. Bowl your arm off. Treat yourself to a nice dinner and a virtual night out with your friends from NF.

Whatever you do, just find enjoyment in it.

That's awesome! Somehow when I was hired on here my birthday got overlooked and didn't make it on the birthday list, so I kept in on the DL. My boss did buy me coffee and mini doughnuts though (there's a lady with a food cart outside our office these are seriously the best donuts I've ever eaten... so hard walking past her "Free maple doughnut Fridays" on Paleo.. ).

ususally that's what they do here. but they know i get really awkward about having everyone sing happy birthday to me. so they decided to go nuts and make it absolutely ridiculous to embarass me even more. it worked but it was so nice of them. i really enjoyed my morning.

If you need an excuse to drink and get together with friends, the only excuse you need is: I'd like to drink and get together with friends.

While we're at the subject, I think it would be a good idea for YOU to initiate the actions and birthday party. In the Netherlands, it's custom that you throw a birthday party if it's your birthday. Also, it ties in nicely with being a person who takes the initiative and all that. (you DO read the man thread, don't you? )

I always take the entire week around my birthday off of work. I am a bit of an outcast in my department (they all like me and all, but I have been working with some of these people for about 9 years, and they still don't know anything about me). Last year was my 40th, and they didn't do anything for me at work. I was both relieved and a bit disappointed. They celebrate everyone else's birthday, and this one was a milestone birthday for me. I spent it at home, eating birthday steaks (had 4 that day!). Got a few phone calls, and a bunch of wall posts on Facebook. I tend to spend my birthdays alone in somewhat quiet reflection of my life. This year, my birthday is on a Friday, so some of my friends are thinking that we actually have to do something. Right now all that I have planned is a birthday workout and another round of birthday steaks.
