“In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a Hobbit-Hole and that meant comfort. †-The Hobbit {Day 0} I live in a Hobbit-Hole. Not quite literally {though my bedroom is in the basement}, but close enough. I have all the tasty food and wonderful books I want in one comfortable place. In short, I've gotten complacent. So: time to change, to rebel, to become a healthier Hobbit! Unfortunately, I don't have much adventuring experience, so I'll have to start with the little things. Also, for the sake of clarity during my first Challenge, I'm not going to bother with extending the theme any further. Main Quest: Establish Healthy{ier} Habbits Mission One: Eat both fruit and vegetables every day. Mission Two: Track refined sugar consumption; reduce by at least 50%. Mission Three: Exercise six days / week. Motivation: Being physically healthier will help me with my anxiety disorder. Mission Evaluation: XP I'm not a fan of the A-F letter grading scale for a variety of reasons, so I've put together a point system adapted from Twilight's via Teirin. Various "mission actions" either earn or burn XP, as listed below. An overall "success" on the Challenge Quest is to have each week's net XP be higher than the previous week. {In theory, you could even end up with negative week-net-XP the whole way through and still "win" the Challenge.} Mission One: Eat a serving of vegetables: +1 XP Eat a serving of fruit: +1 XP If both in the same day: bonus +2 XP Mission Two: Put sugar in coffee or tea; ice cream {per scoop}; candy {per serving}; donut: -1 XP Venti Triple-Carmel Macchiato monstrosity {or other sugary coffeeesque beverage}; cinn-sugar bagel or toast: -2 XP {probably going to add more as I go; you get the idea. I love sugar waaaay too much} Mission Three: Walk at least one mile: +1 XP Ride bike to campus instead of driving: +1 XP Beginner Bodyweight Workout: +2 XP Swim at least 1/2 hour: +2 XP XP assignment may be changed later if edits are needed. Notes on earning/burning XP will be kept in the pocket journal I already carry {for sudden attacks of writing-muses}. Challenge starts Monday!
