Erections while Weightlifting

"what should I do if I get an erection while bench-pressing?"

I didn't want to hijack Spezzy's Men's guild discussions with this, so please, discuss. I for one think you just rock it it and set a PR.

It was brought up by LRB as an example and it got me thinking about what I would do if it actually happened.

i can totally see how younger guys especially are affected by seeing people they're attracted to, but is that typically the reason vs just being pumped up in general? I've been super curious about this, and how often it happens, since the lifting and libido thread, because i'm telling you if i had a penis it would be a serious problem every time i lift.

I'm guessing that for me it's something about engaging my whole body and focusing on the physical alone, and my breathing.... thank goodness there have not been guys lifting heavy in my gym, that badassness would just add to my problem.... if i belonged to a box i'd probably be the resident whore of crossfit....

It may be a younger age hormonal thing. I started lifting seriously when I was 27 so slightly over that age. Also, it is a very difficult topic to google for research papers :(

it's not a hormonal younger guy thing... i (as an old dude) pop a few viagras before heading to the gym... you know... to get some good blood flow going to the muscles... besides, i've got a thick layer of colorful spandex to hide behind... everybody's staring at my outfit anyway... ;-)

i don't care what u think of me. unless u think i'm awesome. in which case u're right.

Never had this problem before, but am curious to find out what the reason behind it would be.

When I was a teen It was common to get a boner in the buss with all the vibration and etc.. So I would flex my legs and it will be gone in 20 secs :) By flexing you pump your blood in your legs :) Cool trick to know as a kid ;)

If you're getting an erection while exercising, you're not exercising hard enough. Blood flow should be directed to the muscles, not your penis.

I'm goin to agree with this completely. There is no way if you're lifting right this could happen.

I'm going to go ahead and disagree. Some of my best workouts not only include but require this to happen. ;)
