Hello, everybody!

 

New poster here, after a bit of lurking. Pleased to meet you!

 

A few words about myself: I'm Mal, a 25 year-old male geek currently living in France. Mostly just a science geek nowadays ever since I stopped playing MMOs. Then again, I reckon it's no coincidence my real-life job description reads "elemental damage specialist".

 

I found NerdFitness 6 months ago and started doing the Beginner Body Weight workout, and, well, it's gotten easy. Since the community seems really nice and I really want to start doing the 6-week challenges, I figured I should sign up proper and continue leveling up.

 

My relationship with fitness has been prickly ever since I fell over in karate class and broke both my arms when I was twelve. I've got some pretty bad scoliosis (my backbone, the roller-coaster), so growing up there's always been a long list of sports I'm not allowed to do and I fell into the pitfall of thinking there was no point in doing anything.

 

But this is not true. Over the last year the boredom of living in a small French town has led me to become a lot more active and realize there's a bunch of stuff I can do: swimming, body-weight training, jogging, pilates, ball-room dancing and much more! I've joined a few courses and started working out a bit on my own, but I'm still a newbie and need some serious advice about how to reach my goals. And I also have a list of non-fitness related things I want to accomplish!

 

Here's my main goals:

 

Trials of the Body: Become a rower and/or a waterpolo player.

Trials of the Mind: Continue to improve as a scientist.

Trials of the Spirit: Work on my art and really get good at drawing.

Trials of the Arcane: Pick up illusionism again and become a performing stage magician.

 

You read that last one right: A few years ago I was in magic club in uni, and to this day it's one of the coolest things I've ever done, but I've forgotten nearly everything I learned. Time to change that.

 

The magic I can handle on my own but I've got loads of questions regarding ways to pick up good habits and LOTS of questions regarding fitness. I hope I'm at the right place?

Sounds like its time to graduate to the advanced body weight workout to keep yourself challenged.  You might want to read the guide to healthy eating which you'll find on the NERD FITNESS tab under FREE RESOURCES.  If you have specific questions, locate the best forum from the FORUMS list, and post your question there. Good luck.
