I run in minimalist merrell shoes with vibram soles. They are as close to barefoot as I can get since the Fivefingers don't fit my toes right. I guess it is possible that my ankles and arches are just getting a workout from the basically barefoot conditions. However I have been wearing shoes of this kind for over two years now, although not necessarily to run.
