Lell
I happened across this site randomly after doing a search on sugar. I loved post "Why Sugar is Worse Than Darth Vader", and just kept reading. Honestly, I don't know if I'll be able to stick to the rules. I signed up for the next 6-week challenge (at least I think I did that right) to try and throw myself into it. Right now, I'm in my 40s, and have struggled with depression and being overweight for the last 20 years. I've stuggled with motivation, mostly because I've convinced myself I'm not worth the effort, so I've become an expert at talking myself out of doing things that will be beneficial in the long run. Add to that middle-age woman crap that makes me appear 5 months pregnant (when I'm not) and osteoarthritis in both knees, both of which limit my flexibility and..........DAGNABIT!!! I'm pissed of at what I've let happen over the last two decades, what I've been too afraid to do, and I'm sick and tired of burying myself in a miserable little hole. I love the attitude on this site, and I'm hoping it's infectious. I just hope my anger at my current situation, combined with a growing hatred of everything sugar is enough to keep me going. Going to need a little help here, folks.... 2 Quote Link to comment
Chris-Tien Jinn
Welcome to the Rebellion!!!! There's a lot to take in - but take it slowly and you'll pick it up as you go. First off, NOTHING is required. Na da. You can hang out, read, swap tips and questions and learn from the mentors and fellow nerds. If you want more accountability, I do recommend the 6-week challenges. During these challenges, you pick a few goals to work on that will help you improve your life. 6 weeks is usually enough time to let you decide if the new activities are helpful and work for you .... or not. And that's long enough to establish new habits that you can turn into a healthier lifestyle. The next challenge starts June 9th. You'd start as a Level 1 Rebel (http://rebellion.ner...level-1-rebels/) .... which is where you LEARN about all of the stats, guilds, rpg character, and so on. You still get to adopt what works for you, and you can ignore the rest. Some very successful NF people never bother with classes or stat points or race or so on. They just hang out in the guild that suits their goals best. Even MOAR accountability? We have accountability groups of 6 or so people who check up on each other frequently during a challenge. Plus lots of other, optional fun. We have SO many people who struggle with depression that I'm seriously thinking about starting an accountabiity group for us. Or maybe one for those of us who are over 50/40/30 ..... or how ever old you need to be to feel old (I don't yet, btw). Let us know how we can help you achieve your goals. Post here ... or you can message me with the envelope icon at the upper right of the screen. Good luck!! Quote Level 63 Human ... Sienna
Hi! I'm a newbie here too!I've had a similar experience: I became overweight when I hit puberty and never bothered to do anything about it because of my poor self image. Fortunately I've reached a point in my life where I CARE about me, and since you've registered and posted here, I feel you might have gotten it too. Don't worry about how many years have passed - that's all in the past. It's now what's important. Now is the time to be freaking badass! So let's do this!! 3 Quote Level 0 Medusa AssassinSTR: 0 | DEX: 0 | STA: 0 | CON: 0 | WIS: 0 | CHA: 0 Current Challenge:The Map "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us." Aminarra
Just wanted to let you know, my mom is in her 40's and decided to (finally?) start taking care of herself. She quit smoking and started working out and she hasn't looked back. Yeah, most days she's limping around because her muscles hurt, but those are also the days where she's grinning ear-to-ear because she DID it. She's genuinely getting happier and I don't have to explain any more "she never used to be like this, she used to be happy". You can get there too. BarrensChat
I find the whole rebellion theme interesting because personally I'm also on a quest to try a more active lifestyle but I liken it more to a dictator taking control of a dissolute administration in case of an emergency, as in the Roman Republic (in my case, a 1/3-life-crisis). Even moreso because it has a definite time limit on it - my birthday in 8 years. At that point, I'll decide whether it's been worth it, or whether the old hedonistic lifestyle was better. Until then, discipline, austerity and a relentless drive for self-improvement. I don't know you, but I'm sure you're worth the effort. Why wouldn't you be? I have low self-esteem too, and I guess this effort of mine is one way of compensating for that. An inferiority complex can be a useful thing, but not if it prevents you from doing things you know you should be doing. Quote Link to comment
Varelse
Two things in common: I am a newbie and I am struggling with depression, too. The firsts steps are done: realizing you have a problem and start talking about it in order to take care about your health. Good luck, and I hope we'll see each other on the next challenge. Nightside
Welcome aboard Nerd Fitness, just remember reaching your goal will be a marathon and not a sprint, dont try to do to much to soon, small steps will get you to your goal, thats how I did it. Good luck and stick with it.
