HAPPY ZERO WEEK EVERYONE!!! ZERO WEEK!!!!!! This morning, a gym buddy/regular came to me with an issue. He has been coming in on the regular all summer, and I've seen him work hard, but today he seemed really frustrated. He said: "I've reached a point where I'm as flexible as I was hoping to be, as loose, and as strong. I don't know what do do next!" IMO, this is an excellent problem to have! I explained to him about maintenance mode, and about some of the ideas attached to it. It can be disarming to have a long term goal come to an end, and what if you don't have another big epic goal you want to come to next? What if you're pretty happy and just want to stay happy? What if you're so afraid to NOT have a grand goal that you start to shake that happiness for no good reason? (What if injury prevents you from moving forward safely...?) Unfortunately there's no simple answer. Self reflection and courage of conviction is part of the journey to a strong inner you. Personally? I'm a fan of finding joy and feeding it skittles from my open palm. (Okay that's a huge exaggeration for the sake of poetic narration. If I fed it anything it would be pop rocks or maybe Swedish fish, but skittles just sound good there.) So what does this have to do with me getting really good really fast? Well, lately, my primary goals involve surviving the work day with enough energy and maintaining minimal to hopefully no injury. Also, not getting too fat so my clothes don't fit. I do NOT have time to buy more clothes yo. It's working out, tho somedays are better than others. I'm not lifting much in terms of a personal program, I'm really not doing much at all for my own training, but I'm enormously active and always lifting something, and always training something. Much more so than ever in my life. I wasn't going to challenge at all... buuttttt..... (sorry @Laghail it didn't happen this time!) I perchanced on some banter with @Wild Wolf on his thread, and on mentioning that I suck at jump rope, was hit with a bit of inspirational lightening to throw down with the Wolf this challenge and see about changing that. It's come up several times because of the boxing classes I'm getting involved with, and it looks shitty when I can't do it well. Also, I should be able to do it well This isn't a big crazy goal, but let's face it. I've got my shit pretty under control (at the moment LOL), and this is fun, short term, will give me a cardio alternative to running which aggravates my ish, and gives me a little burst of something to care about, even if it's not the big huge thing. Really, I kind of jumped on it on a whim. Feed the joy. Why not indeed. So how do you get really good at something really fast? I mean... you don't. Not REALLY... this ain't the Matrix darlings. But what I can do, for the next 5 weeks, is chip away, 10 minutes or so everyday, practice practice practice. Wanna get good at something fast? DO IT. Constantly. As much as you can in a reasonable manner. I mean... what else do I have going on? For now, all I can say is that there will be speed, there will be videos. There will be songs (and practicing singing while jumping rope cause that's apparently a thing too, thank you joy), and there will be costumes. And, if I'm honest, probably some Deadpool stuff, I guess, fine, whatever, cause go fuck yourself Deadpool. TASK THE FIRST Jump the rope. Get better. Don't embarrass myself. Take progression videos. TASK THE SECOND MAKE A COOL COSTUME for the final video TASK THE THIRD Post pictures here cause I like pictures and should be using my IG more So. My first day. My new speed rope. I know, you're gonna be super intimidated by this amazing starting point... but don't you underestimate the Red yo. It just makes me stronger... (Also my cat suit just came in! MEOW!)
