New PR's for me: Deadlift, Squat, Bench Press

Recommended Posts

I made the transition to the Ranger crew a few months back & have been slowly navigating my way through learning the iron. I have been reading "Starting Strength" by Rippetoe and, since I am unfortunately going solo, taking my time when it comes to weight progression to focus on form like a crazy man.  Before switching to the rangers I've never deadlifted before, whenever the last time it was that I benched anything, it was in my teens and my form sucked BAD.  Up until the switch to the Rangers, I was an assassin and focused on bodyweight exercises and adding weight to squats and lunges with what I had a home. The heaviest I've went on squats at home was about 75lbs - 55lbs on a curl bar (very limited set of plates at home) plus 20lbs in a vest.

Deadlifts this week: Bar + 25lb plates on each side

Squats: Same as DL

Bench: Bar + 40lbs on each side.

Might not be much to some, but I'm proud of the progress I've made.

I dunno..... Sounds like awesome sauce to me :encouragement:

Thanks, Guzzi!

Progress is progress, and that is always woot worthy!   :)    If you are serious about lifting, check out a beginner program like Strong Lifts or Starting Strength.  Good luck!

True, Destroyer, progress is progress.  Yeah, I'm digging through "Starting Strength" and liking it. Almost done with the book and have changed my techniques to reflect more of what I've been learning through that book. Good stuff! Thanks for the input!

The last time I updated this lil' thread I was at:

Deadlifts this week: Bar + 25lb plates on each side (95lbs total)

Squats: Same as DL (95lbs)

Bench: Bar + 40lbs on each side. (125lbs)

Plus 2 Chin Ups and 1 Pull Up

Just over a month later, here is where I am at now (slow and steady = winning for me).

Deadlifts: 135lbs (bar + 45lb plate on each side) 40lb gain

Squats:  115lbs (Bar+35lb plate on each side) 20lb gain

Bench: 135lbs (bar+45lb plate on each side) 10lb gain

Chins: 5 3 rep gain

Pulls: 4 3 rep gain

PRs are one of lifes ways of showing you how far you've come.

Fellow rebels, may these gains help you continue moving forward in your own goals.

Strength isn’t just about winning. Even if my attempts are pathetic and comical, and even if I’m covered in the mud of my defeat, if I can keep fighting and look up at the sky as I lie on the ground, that alone is proof of true strength! Haruyuki Arita (Accel World)
