Greetings, fellow rebels!

The name's Megawolf. Nice to meet you! I'm a Web programmer / analyst for a small college by day and avid gamer by night. I've spent too much of my life completely ignoring fitness, but that has to stop. When I stumbled upon Nerd Fitness, something clicked in my head and I knew becoming a rebel would be the motivational push I needed to finally stop procrastinating and be the best version of me I can be.  :)

I'm a 27 year-old, 5'9" (or is it 5'10", I can never remember) guy weighing in at just over 200 lbs. My current plans are to drop that weight down to about 175 and find an exercise type I enjoy. I kind of lean toward powerlifting, but running is fun too. I would love to eventually get back into martial arts (I was with a Shoren Ryu Karate dojo for a couple years when I was younger), but I think I'm best off doing things one step at a time.

As for interests, I play a lot of video games and watch a lot of anime. I have an awesome Siberian Husky who I love spending time with and I'm currently studying Japanese so I can understand the dialogue in the imported games I've been playing. I also get a kick out of putting stuff together (computers, Gundam models, etc.).

Anyway, I'm glad to have found this community and look forward to leveling-up my life alongside the rest of you!

Welcome to the Rebellion!!!!

There's a lot to take in - but take it slowly and you'll pick it up as you go.

First off, NOTHING is required.  Na da.  You can hang out, read, swap tips and questions and learn from the mentors and fellow nerds.

If you want more accountability, I do recommend the 6-week challenges.  During these challenges, you pick a few goals to work on that will help you improve your life.  6 weeks is usually enough time to let you decide if the new activities are helpful and work for you .... or not. And that's long enough to establish new habits that you can turn into a healthier lifestyle.

The next challenge started June 9th, but you can still get in on the fun.  You'd start as a Level 1 Rebel (http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/forum/362-level-1-rebels/) .... which is where you LEARN about all of the stats, guilds, rpg character, and so on as well as working at setting SMART goals.  You still get to adopt what works for you, and you can ignore the rest.  Some very successful NF people never bother with classes or stat points or race or so on.  They just hang out in the guild that suits their goals best.

Even MOAR accountability?  We have accountability groups of 7 or so people who check up on each other frequently during a challenge.  Plus lots of other, optional fun.

Let us know how we can help you achieve your goals.  Post here ... or you can message me with the envelope icon at the upper right of the screen.

Good luck!!

Thanks, Chris-Tien! I've been looking into the 6-week challenges, and they sound like a lot of fun. I've always loved RPGs, so the idea of treating my fitness progress like one is really appealing. Figuring out what to put down for a race might be kind of tricky. I'm sure I'll come up with something. :)

The hardest part for me is hammering out exactly what I want to work on and focusing on it, but I guess the key is to just pick something and go for it. I was kind of undecided on whether I should join the existing challenge or wait for the next one, but I think I'll start sooner rather than later.

Thanks again for the great welcome and advice! :)

From another newbie, welcome aboard! If you ever need anything give me a shout and I'll do my best

Thanks! Nice to meet you. :)

Greetings Megawolf! I love Siberian Huskies, they are beautiful dogs. Especially if they are heterochromatic, my heart just melts. Best of luck on your very first challenge!

Thanks, and nice to meet you! Her eyes aren't heterochromatic, but they are a beautiful shade of blue. I'll have to get a good picture and link it sometime. :)

From another newbie, hi Megawolf! It's awesome that you want to get back into martial arts; that's one of my main hopes too - I did Kajukenpo when I was younger :D So awesome that I'm not the only one who's out, but banging down the door to start again!

Nice to meet you, nightwatcher13! I absolutely love martial arts. The only things holding me back from rushing out and joining a class / dojo somewhere right now are scheduling and the fact that I don't have a good means of transportation yet. I can't be too picky about which style to learn if I want to stay close to home, but that's OK. I just want to find a good class, join it, and see just how far I can take myself. :)
