That seems so complicated.  Haha.... what happened just to picking up some weight and moving it?  :)

 

I know I know... it's all within the rules, just seems overly complex to have to go through all that.  Anyway... best of luck at the meet.

Initially, there were only slightly supportive leotards and wraps with the prupose of stopping your knees and internal organs from exploding.  Then people discovered they could make these slightly supportive things supper supportive by getting them two size too small.  Then they discovered textile enhancements, then bench shirts, then tripple ply, denim etc etc.

Untill you ended up with what is equipped lifting now.

I'm greatful that IPF only allows single ply because I struggle enough without any added pressure. 

(And I can pick up some pretty ballin' weights raw too.)

I don't think we'll see a total death of equipped lifting but we will see a steady increase in the popularity of classic.  Suits and wraps are still used in some strongman events too.

Suits and wraps are still used in some strongman events too.

Yeah, suits weren't allowed at my comp on Saturday but wraps were allowed in both the squat and deadlift events.

That I've seen suits are allowed in most of the deadlifting events in a lot of comps.

I've seen Shahlaei wear full equipment at WSM for squat, it was also the year he tried to show boat in the heats and tore his quad. 

And the novice strongman comp I particapitaed in I was the only one that had to be told wraps and straps but no suits.  None of the other women knew what a squat suit was never mind what one looked like (still owned the squat challenge while being the lightest competitor.)  I had to go first on the overhead medley, which seemed to lull a lot of people into a false sense of security.

On a slightly related note, the gym I train at does a lot of strongman events and they're trying to convince me to participate.  Some of the women's weights are too heavy this time (70kg stone and 30kg dumbbell) but I'd still run the place on a lot of the leggy stuff.

Highlight of tonights training, speed pull with 135kg.  Still undecided on whether that's the opener for next week or to push it at 140kg (I never fail 140kg but it gets hairy after that point.)

As promised, me considering a connecting flight to gainsvile via snap city.

...really? It was fighting to get away from you at lock but really?

That was supposed to be an example of why you SHOULDN'T do another comp?

My elbow was hyper extended and shoulder wasn't exactly stable.  Given time it could be fixed.

 

heh, makes me want to break out my 2" handles. Do you train on thick bars often. I have to assume you have hands that are smaller than the average man's so that's got to be really interesting given the amount of weight you move.

My hands aren't that small, I've had no trouble with the axle so far but I haven't lifted much on it either.  I've found it easier to press with a thicker bar as I don't get the roll back to the fingers from the palm.

What does give me trouble because of my size is the various loading things.  Stones and kegs are rounder than me.

Hit my openers on Thursday and did final warm up weights yesterday.

Got my first three tabs on Friday, which was a nice suprise.  I was looking forward to being a no tabs in the blue belt section at the Scotia cup.

What time do you lift approximately?

Wednesday @ 11:00am uk time.

 

Looking easy on those openers. 

They'd need to be considering the amount of water weight I'm shifting in the last 5 days.

So... as someone who I believe uses SBD knee sleeves, do you have any issues using them during Oly lifts?  I only ask because most Oly sites I've seen recommend the Rehbands, but every review I've seen between the two says the SBD's are a better sleeve.

No issues on Oly Lifts.  I actually find they give me a little better support on Oly lifts as I have more forward knee movement.  Once you get the hang of putting them on there isn't an issue.  I'll post a video for how to get them on once I'm back home on Thursday.

I've never heard someone so cheerfully say "The bar is loaded!" over and over and over....

 

No idea if the music was actually being played in the gym or if it was just through the stream, but I loved that right before your 3rd Bench attempt "Eye of the Tiger" comes on.  Then you nail it.  Perfect.  (Sorry I'm a sucker for Rocky music).

 

Didn't catch any of the Squat attempts, but Bench looked very solid as did Deadlift.  Just so happens that apparently the other woman in your division are Deadlift fiends!  Did Magdolna actually break a World Record or was that just a meet record?  The stream just indicated it was some sort of record, but didn't really clarify.  Also, it would have been pretty sweet to see Ellie hit that 165kg.  She was so close.  Either way props on the 3rd place in total finish.  It was fun watching you compete.
