It's the end of the competition year and this seems like a good time to start off.

 

I had my best equipped competition ever, hitting 9/9 and taking all but one national record (pesky deadlift.)  Everything was a personal best , with deadlift being 15kg above what I'd done at the worlds less than a month ago.

 

 

Towards the end of this year I've found a program that leads me up to raw competitions perfectly and got into the swing of training effectively for equipped competitions.  I've also beasted the GBPF year rankings and the all time rankings too.  Time to start heading towards that all time number one spot.

 

Main goals for 2015:

  • Lifting at 52kg for IPF internationals
  • A medal (not a participation one) at an IPF international
  • Qualify for British Weightlifting Championships
  • Get at least 30 points towards my judo 2nd Dan

Here I will be recording training and tasty meals that feel like cheat meal but are actually going to help keep me at 52kg.

Is that a 2X bench and 3x+ deadlift I see there? Nice work!

 

3x+ on deadlift but not quite on bench press.  I stayed in the 57s untill the end of the year.  It's equipped any way, so doesn't count to some people.

Tuesday Training:

 

Squat:

3 @120kg

5 @90kg

2x5 @95kg

 

Bench Press (paused 1st rep):

3 @75kg

5 @60kg

2x5 @65kg

 

Hang Snatch:

5x3 @35kg

 

Assistance:

Dumbbell Rows, Overhead Lunges and various ankle/ hip mobility work.

Supposed to be easing back in and I'm shocked by the kind of weights that are now in the main trainign cycle instead of peaking for competition.

Thursday (light deadlift assistance):

Clean & Jerk: 5x3 @53kg

Snatch Grip Deadlift: 3x5 @65kg

Paused Front Squat: 5x5 @65kg

Lat Pull Down: 5x10 @35kg

Trying out the Magnusson/Ortmayer Deadlift routine because a) my uq deadlift has been poop the past year B) the intensity looks about right compared to others and c) I really want those end numbers to be real.



Deadlift: 4x4 @110kg, 2x2 @122.5kg
Barbell Glute Bridge: 5x10 @90kg
OHP: 12 @25kg, 8 @30kg, 5 @33kg, 3 @35kg
Jerk: 5x3 @48kg
Assistance: planks & renegade rows

And I have to get back under 54kg in seven weeks for the Judo Scottish Open.  The last 2 can come off as water weight as it's a night before weigh in but they'll spot check people to make sure they're within 5% of their weight class on the day.

 

Also got busted trying to sand bag in a Gracie Bara gym.  I figure any extra time on the mat will do me good, so going to try and get down there at lunch times.  They know I'm not a proper white belt :(

Important things first, where did you get those leggings?

 

Your easy doubles are pretty much my max... I really need to get that sorted before April. What do you mean about you want the numbers to be real?

 

What are you weighing in at at the moment? You're not that far off 54kg?

My sort of step mum got them for me in the kids section at Asda.

 

Basically the end of the program goes to doubles over my best 1rm.  So we'll see when we get there.

I'm still at 55.9kg, it'll start dropping soon but I don't like the whole big chocolate holiday being in the way.  I have to keep giving away sweets as I'm getting them as congratulations presents.

It's 12 weeks, the europeans is 16 weeks, but that's 4 weeks of maintenance I can do.

I get cheapish leggings since they'll see a lot of wear and tear due to cycling in the rain... like today.

Monday:

Squat: 3@120kg, 3x5 @95kg  (supposed to be 3 @ 9RPE and 3x5 @ 8RPE but still feeling out where I should be on the higher reps)
Bench - first rep paused: 3@77.5kg, 5@65kg, 2x5@67.5kg
Snatch 5x3 @43kg

Assistance: dumbbell rows and lunges.

 

 

Tuesday (no footage, forgot my phone):
Clean & Jerk: 5x3 @54kg

Snatch Grip Dealift: 3x5 @65kg - starting to get the shrug at the top now for high pulls

Paused Fron Squat: 3x5 @ 67.5kg

Assistance: Super set of inverted rows & push ups, super set of lat pull downs & barbell roll out.

The men folk are mad that I'm exceeding their un met record standards at 59kg, and I discovered the hidden chocolate.  The chocolate has to be re hidden.

Damn, I am jealous of that setup. I can't bend nearly that far. I suppose my bench wouldn't suck if I worked on that a bit...oh, and actually benched more often...

I've always had the mobility for it.  You should see the problems I get from too much mobility.

Got to sandbag at BJJ during lunch today.  There were some upset and armlocked white belts and an impressed purple  belt.  Huzza for kata ha jime and juji gatame.

Well hello there! I see that you have some snatches in your workouts... Do you compete in both sports?

Yeah, but I haven't been weightlifting long and powerlifting takes priority.

I also compete in judo and will probably be competing in BJJ again soon.  (because I'm not an international player so I can do what I like without IJF getting grumpy.)

Do you find it easier to roll against BJJ folks with a Judo background? I keep seeing these Judo guys choking out BJJ guys and it has me wondering if BJJ is the right direction for me.

I've ehard this shouldn't be the case, but where I am there are much more higher graded and expereinced judo players than there are BJJ players.

However, I'll still learn new things from BJJ that can be applied to judo.

Thursday:

 

Paused Squat (3 count): 3 @112.5kg
Squat: 5 @112.5kg, 4x5 @105kg - the program calls for hitting what I did as my top paused set on volume.  112.5kg felt a bit grindy for that tonight.

Bench (comp paused): 1 @75kg, f @80kg

Paused Bench (3 count) 5x5 @60kg

Assistance: OH Squat, Bent Over Row and seated cable row.

I really hate benching at the uni.  Their bench isn't fixed so it wheels about when I drive through the floor, and it's too narrow to get my man shoulders set.  It's also too high, which should be an advantage but it isn't.

Saturday:

Jerk: 3,2,2,3,3 @50kg - bar was sitting so nice on the ones I didn't fail.  Hopefully I can keep this up when the clean goes back in.

I was extremely skeptical that the program called for a double at 140kg on deadlift.  That's pretty close to my competition max, turns out it was ok though.
